I've never heard claims that the Q is in any way "worse" than the K, but I've heard some claims that it's "better" or "the same" - so either way I don't think you'll go wrong getting the Q (there's that green one though...tongue_smile.gif). The Fiio E11 should be more than competent enough for what you're after. Enjoy!

The Q701 doesn't have the same exact sound as the K series. It's been mentioned before. Sure, they MAY have had the same sound when the Qs were first released, but I'm willing to bet there was a revision somewhere, because the Q701 I have is quite obviously warmer, and fuller bodied in sound than the K701 I had. It's not even doubtful. It just is. Chicolom who tested both side by side also came to the same conclusion.

I really only have experience with the d2000's from the cans you are looking at...but I can testify that they in fact will be fantastic for the music that you mentioned. We have similar musical preferences....they will not disappoint and really don't need an amp. They will perk up and give you the most with one though so I hear.

I am running mine upamped and it is marvelous...

This doesn't help much - you're talking apples and oranges.

The AKG is great when I want to listen to vocals and classical, for everything else I would prefer my Denon, and Grado for rock

And that's what everyone keeps telling me - I'm not contesting it. I'm also not buying the Q's just to find out. Just to throw a wrench in the whole works, has anyone mentioned the Sony MDR-SA5000 yet?

Hmm...i never even considered the d2000. Looking around though i saw it has a great soundstage and better impact than the q701, plus its a little more portable since it is closed.

Seeing as how bot the Denon 2000s and the AKG K550s are lauded for their impressive soundstage, I was wondering if anyone could do a comparison of the two? The AKG K550 is woefully underdiscussed so I can't decide if they are on the same level as denons are.

From what I understand, the K550 is very new - that explains that why it's not very well known. I have not seen them offered for sale yet; perhaps I'm just not looking in the right places though.

It really sucks because I'm interested in these, but the reviews on this site are not only sparse, but extremely polarizing as well as low on details.

It seems like most trusted sources haven't even seen or heard of these headphones, so I have no trusted voice!

JR sells them, and allows returns - give them a shot and tell us what you think; if you hate them, return them. L3000.gif

I've been really interested in the D2000s lately. How do they pair with a Fiio E11 and how's their bass compared to a Grado SR225 or HD600? OP, I'm sort of in the same boat - I've read that the D2000s are apparently really great all-rounders and I've been interested in them for their soundstage as well.
