First of all I own a SRH240 which I got as a freebie from a cousin who works at a music store.
I am definitely not satisfied with it. I dont have much listening experience so I dont know the more expressive words but sounds very un-immersing and tinny. I would even prefer default ipod buds for sound quality.

So using SRH240 as a reference, I want my new pair to feel like an upgrade. The reason I brought up the SRH240 is because I was considering the Brainwavz HM3 (Fischer Audio FA 004). It seemed very well-reviewed as a good starter bang-for buck head phone, but in a different thread I saw someone recommending the SRH240 to someone who was considering the price range.

It was my biggest contender until i saw the thread. If I wanted a pair to satisfy me, would I have to spend more money?

The most Im willing to spend is HM50/HD558, but i would really prefer If i can go cheaper. Yes I am poor

I prefer open-back over-ear, but dont really care too much. Im willing to try anything

TL;DR VERSION
I would appreciate it if you guys can recommend phones in the 75-150 range for a nubbie.
Cheaper the better but Im very unsatisfied with my current SRH240. so I want it to be an upgrade from that.

If you like your music to be more forward and energetic, get a Set of Grados, SR60i, Sr80i, or Sr125i. I had a pair of the SR60i, and it is hard not to recommend them, especially at their price. It gets better the more you pay!

Other great mentions are the Fischer Audio FA-011 and 003, and if you can extend your budget a bit, get a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 880.

There are also various Sennheiser models but I don't know much about them, partly because my first experience with their headphones (the HD 598s) left a bad taste in my mouth. Don't take my word though, tons of others sing praise for Sennheiser!

I tried to help as best I could, hope you got something from my post.

If you can, give KRK KNS-8400 or 6400 a serious look. I think it's the best bang for the buck. Very affordable if you are looking for a neutral and balance sounding headphone that is not bass heavy but enough bass when necessary.

What is your musical preferences? Genre? Where are you using these? What devices are you using these on?

There are quite a number of headphones in this range worth mentioning, but it depends on what type of music you prefer, whether you want neutral headphones, or some that are slightly "colored" and if you need portability.

The KRK's already mentioned are worth doing some research on.  Another good all-rounder in this price range is the Sony ZX700, but these are closed back.  AKG K240 Studios are a set with a smooth laid back sound...they are semi-open back.

I have Grado SR60i's and enjoy them, but have a hard time recommending them to anyone who doesn't have direct access to them to try them in person.

Thanks everyone for the replies

I listen to a wide range of music, but im concerned the most about how well they play orchestrated/classical music. I like to listen for a long time when i get at it, so i dont want them to be too straining on the ears, both sound and comfort wise.

they're gonna be for home use. most often used on my computer with Fiio E10.
