There's a neat app for the iPhone called "FLAC Player" you can get for 10 bucks at the App Store. You can play FLAC files up to 24/96 with it, though I believe the iPhone downsamples it to 16/44.1 or 48 to its native capable resolution.

If its designed specifically for iPhone/Pod, that can't happen. iPhones/Pods can't play FLAC.

Haven't read the whole thread, have bigger earcushions been looked into? My Crossfades become uncomfortable after about an hour or two of use because they're not quite big enough and my ear rubs against the driver.

I believe I saw Val say earlier that they were trying some bigger earcushions out but they weren't working out so well...not really sure what he meant by that though.

I'm still trying to decide if I should keep the M80s I have AND get the M100s or if I should return the M80s and wait for the M100s. Would there be enough of a difference in the two to warrant having both?

I think maybe you should just try that out for yourself!  Nobody has the answer to that question yet.  I'd say you should just keep them and sell them if you feel the M-100 will replace them.

I've already decided that once I get the M-100, I will also keep my M-80. Here's why: the M-80 is just so portable and useful when you're out and about or doing things around the house and want something smaller and a little more secure on your head and ears. It's also out of the way more when it's resting around the neck. However, I have always wanted a nice portable circumaural that isolates well. Since the M-100 will have a a much bigger driver, I'm assuming the soundstage/imaging will be even bigger and sweeter. And I assume it will be a very substantial upgrade in overall SQ to the M-80. Anyway, everyone is different  but this is my reasoning of keeping both.

You and I have posted many similar preferences since this thread was started! I'm in 100% concurrence with you here, too. I'll keep the M-80 for super on-ear portability, and get the M-100 because of the over-ear badass-ed-ness :)

I equate it to multiple weapons for different uses, they form a great 1-2 punch.  I primarily use the M-80s for gym, car (with one ear) and shorter listening sessions.  M-100 (and LP2) is my weapon of choice for flights, snowboarding and DJ gigs.  Sound-wise, they definitely will have variances for genres but my M-100 isn't the final golden sample, so I have to wait to give you my longer comparison opinion.

Style/Weather
Sometimes I wear them differently just for the style or weather.  I think M-80 (w red shield) looks cool when I don't wear a jacket, and I like M-100 (stock shields) when I wear a jacket.  Maybe subconsciously I think of Mission Impossible where Tom Cruise had the LP2 + a black leather jacket like one that I have.  As Jude said, it looks "tactical'.

I have to share: I just flew from Boston to San Diego and back again, and the M-80 did surprisingly well with noise isolation. On the outbound flight to SD I was sitting a couple rows back from emergency exit, pretty much directly behind the engine, and the noise is greater and harder to block out. But on the return trip I sat near the front of the plane, and the ability of these little on-ear M-80 to block out ambient noise was substantial, even compared to my cheapo IEMs. Probably not as good as the battery powered, noise-canceling B*$e that the dude sitting next to me was wearing, but then again, his B*$e doesn't compare to the sound quality of my M-80! Can't wait to get the M-100 for when I fly out to L.A. to spend the summer

Is it safe to say the M-100 won't be as pleasing to the basshead community?

Val, one thing I really hope can be changed for the M-100: I have a problem with the m 80 here the 3 striped jack connection for mic support has meant that amps (or at least my amp) have trouble, and the sound comes across thin and messed up. This can only be corrected by the use of a typical stereo jack with no mic. Could you supply a standard cable for amping purposes?

An easy way to get around this is simply to flip the cable around and use the straight side in the amp.  Not entirely ideal, but it works pretty well.  I think that supplying both of the different mic cables brings up the price enough...though I agree, I'd rather just have one single-button remote and one audio-only cable.

Haha too true :) Glad someone here agrees and shares the same experiences/views with such great cans. Can't wait to finally experience the M-100 for myself already. Coming to this thread can sometimes be a little painful because I've been anticipating this headphone for so long lol. I am grateful, however, for all of Val's updates.

I know this feel all too well. Being how I was I expected to see the M-100's showcased final at CES since there was a lot of speculation and whatnot. Since before then and after I have been on the edge of my seat waiting eagerly.

I am already preparing my list of songs which I will listen to first to "break in" the M-100's. I am also hoping to show them off at the convention I am going to in July.

M-100 does include an audio only cable!  the solution for this though with M-80 is to reverse the cable (as some people found out) with amps that do not work well with the 4-pin plug.
