Has anyone else had this issue? Did V-MODA take care of you? My instincts tell me to just get my money back, but these sounded so amazing when they were working 100%.

They don't sound as cordial on email/messaging. Give 'em a call and ask them for advice based on what you're experiencing.

I got my shields on and they look sharp.Be carefull putting them on because it's very easy to strip the hex screws as I did.

Follow up to my previous post where I mentioned the Fiio RC-Mh1 cable. Well worth they money, looks and feels great much better than stock cables IMO. Perfect length too. No annoying kinks. The slightly longer jack at the headphone end is no problem thus far, at least in summer with t-shirts. Some have commented it catches on their jackets in winter when they turn their heads. Can see how it could happen if you've got a jacket with a long neck and you have a short neck but its the only possible downside with this cable.

They are the silver shields. And they can't custom engrave silver.I wanted all silver screws but they came with only three,the rest were black.

I called them and it played out exactly like I knew it would. I described the problem. She was friendly and suggested swapping cables. I have tried two cables from my M80, and tried the jacks in both sides. I asked if they were familiar with an issue like that and all she would say is that it was usually the cable and then talked about burn in..... I needed absolute confidence that they were familiar with what was happening so I could be certain it would be recognized and repaired if I spent shipping both directions and missed my return window from amazon. It's extra risky since they are a functioning pair, they just sound like a normally functioning awful pair of headphones with no punch and an insane V shaped sound and low fidelity. 

If there wouldn't have been a period where they were functioning as designed, the way the reviewers describe and the way the frequency response charts show I would have been convinced that this is how they are supposed to sound and wondered what all of the reviewers were smoking.

But I'm willing to bet, the majority of people who have not liked these and sent them back, sold them off or reviewed them extremely negatively... it was because of this.

Before returning them to the packaging I measured them with the volt meter out of curiosity. 33ohms, only one off from specs. My M50s measured precisely 38. *shrugs*
 
The only other strange thing I noticed was that anything conductive that touched plug made a loud crackle in the headphones, I've absolutely never seen that before. Where is the voltage to do that coming from? Are these especially sensitive to static where other sets are 100% immune to it?
 
Ahh well, this marks the end of my VMODA m100 misadventure.

For god sake just sent it back. Yours wasn't wired correctly and there is nothing you can do. Stop being a wuss and suck it up and mail it back.

Don't worry that's what I'm doing. Since this is a discussion about the M100 and I am an enthusiast I was curious about how common this was and was trying to see if it gets repaired or overlooked. Discussing a pair of headphones in the proper place.

hahah cool face at the bottom. are you goin to try a new pair of m100s or go w/ smtg else? i think the ultrasone pro 900 is often compared to the m100s in terms of similar sound signatures.

I haven't posted in this thread for quite a while, so I was wondering about a few things...
 

• What's the consensus on the XL M-100 Pads? Do they improve comfort? How so? Any changes to the sound?
• Any new hints at V-MODA's next headphone? If so, what're we expecting now?

• The XL pads on the M-100 are more comfortable simply due to the size.  They aren't much larger in terms of height and width, the reason is the depth, what the main complaint with the M-100 pads were.  They are deeper so the metal driver covers don't press up against your ear, which became intolerable for some.  I should also mention that they are a little hotter to wear as well over time.  Definitely a drawback for the summer months, something that hasn't been brought up because most people in the US are freezing their nips off in the cool front we all just got hit with XD  As for sound changes, the XL pads do increment the v-shape of the M-100 (which already have a slight v-shape).  Bass depth is improved at the cost of the lower midrange being drowned out further; the bass could also be a tad large at times too.  The upper mids get perceivably stronger and sweeter and vocal dynamics increase as well.  I feel that the use of XL pads will create a larger v-shape, but the sonic differences cancel each other out.  You get improvements here and there, but lose out in other areas.  
• V-Moda's next release looks to be the V-Moda XS, no confirmation on this yet though.  It's not a new flagship, it's still a little too early to do that IMO, rather it's an improvement on their previous successful HiFi phone, the M-80.  They are supposed to use the same M-80 design and size, but add in ClickFold technology so they can be even more portable.  No word on release dates or sonic improvements though (I'd hope for sonic improvements though) or even anything else for the matter (lots of people found them uncomfortable).  We'll find out more information as they prepare to release them I guess.
