Totally made the right choice. As "flagships" go, I found the PS1000s among the weakest...heck, they weren't even my favourite current production Grados.

thanks!
lol, i tried to like them, but the T1 just completely destroys them, its no contest, the Beyerdynamic T1 just rock harder and better than the PS1000 in every imaginable way. i might re-buy the RS1i though, since i did enjoy them quite a bit, and they where more natural sounding than the PS1000

Wow. Solid State. Never thought it would happen.

i know!

lol, if i don't like GSX2, of course, i'll return it/sell it and go for a stratus or WA5 or something, but i think i'll like it. either way the WA2 is staying for HD 800/T1.

Having owned the WA2 (and really enjoyed it), there was really no contest between the GS-X MKII and the WA2 or WA22.

btw does GSX 2 have single ended output for headphones? or just balanced?

and does it need balanced input?

Both. But to run the amp fully balanced and use it's complete circuitry, you're going to need balanced outputs and inputs.

so balanced input but unbalanced output doesn't work?

btw why on the picture of the face, why does it say L SE and R SE? do i need some sort of adapter for SE?

Nope...you'll need both. But for low impedance cans like the TH-900s, don't worry so much as they don't need the 1-2 punch of the GS-X.

But for orthos or the HD800s, most definitely I would recommend balanced outputs. Good news is you can use the old 2 x 3pin XLR or 1 x 4 pin XLR. The old GS-X only had the former.

no it uses 3-pin XLR + 1/4" combo jacks, which means they are 3-pin XLR jacks with a big 1/4" in the middle for SE. L and R are marked for the XLR, and SE for the two single ended jacks. you can use the two as one pair of balanced out, or two single ended headphone outs

NVM. I was about to type a response, but this nails it.

oh this explains it quite well.

so ummm if i use unbalanced input and single ended headphones, or balanced input but single ended headphones, it'd be the same thing, its only half the amp i'm using.

and the 3 outputs are as follows. 1 is the 4 pin XLR, the  other 2 are either, 1. the 2 x 3pin XLR, or just 2 separate regular single ended jacks.

yes that is correct. also if you use SE input and balanced headphones, it would work but you would be getting SE sound.

  PS500 > PS1000. Sadly.

Not sad, but true.

I suppose... Reminds me when I would only drive standard, then got married and had to switch to automatic. Don't think I could ever go back to stick shift...

Great analogy. Just makes life simpler and being in my 40s, I can now appreciate that.
