The thing is that the Pro80's are not neutral so I think that describing it as more neutral than the HD6000 might give the impression that's it neutral when it's not.

 
Well, I got your point but I think we can't simply say this headphones are neutral, this other headphones aren't neutral. I believe that comparison is more fruitful, and that is why I said "more neutral" instead of neutral.
 
I speak for the general consensus perceived, as I've said. But I'm really sure that some people could find HD6000 more neutral than Pro 80, because our hearing is quite complex and may differ between people. More so, recording techniques are very different from one album to another, then calling a headphone neutral is an oversimplification of the problem to me.

I own the Pro80's myself and rate them very highly, never heard the HD6000's though so can't comment on them.

I just noticed the weirdest thing. Pro80 has no ventilation/bass ports. Of course there are the holes covered with paper on the baffle but nothing else. Usually this kind of design will result in very weak bass. I don't know how in heck Takstar managed to pull this one off. Most closed headphones have so much air circulation that those leak alot of sound. Even headphones with best isolation usually have some sort of small bass ports (hm5 and dtt770 for example). Try coverin the holes on hm5 and bass completely disappears. There are of course headphones that are completely sealed but those usually are cramped sounding portable headphones with very limited soundstage. Takstar has no extra holes, still has bass good soundstage and airy sound. Impressive engineering...

I listened to HI 2050 (which i have) pro 80, hd6000, ts-662 and ts-671. All i can say - HD6000 are simply the best of all, they have really fun "V-shaped" sound signature, i like it much - no need in EQ at all. About pro 80/2050 - they are "flat", with lot of sibilance and harsh trebles out of the box (new revision of pro80 is very close to 2050 in this issue), in compare with HD6000 - they're brighter and not so punchy in lows. Also i really like TS-662, for their comfort and more balanced sound, than 2050 have.

We had a lot of fun with an other cheap phone some years ago, removing the baffle will give greater soundstage, I can not remember what more was changed, I will have to dive deep in my arcives to find this, I will find it and post it, but be patient, but it was an open phone and I have not tried it on a closed one..
 
Could be fun modding either 2050 or pro80..
 
Which one should we choose ??
I got more than one of both,I do think the Pro80 is the most interesting phone, but the 2050 has some obvious things we could point our aim at and try to cure..
 
Both has the potential to reach very high levels, I am quite sure we can make these a serious contender..
 
Maybe we should do it in a different thread ?? 
 
Let us do this toogether and have great time and tune our phones to our liking, we can do a lot of very cheap and easy mods, that will rock your world....

No harm in trying. At most you're out $55 if you ruin them.

New thread might be a good idea. This one is quite crowded as it is Funny how everything takstar related got under one thread. I''m glad I got my hi2050 when I did...didn't have to read 100 pages of this thread at once.
 
My wallet votes for hi2050. Would be cheaper to get another pair for sake of science.  I did few experiments with pro80. I was surprised that hm5 pads didn't make the bass boomy. If i remember correctly that happened with hi2050+hm5 pads. Hm5 pads are pretty big so there was quite a bit space underneath. I tuck some paper tissue on the backside on now the pads are slightly angled and very deep. It's amazing but that actually pretty much resolved the sibilance issue. Ear to driver distance doubled and it helped! Another thing that changed was the soundstage. It is slightly deeper but my god is it wide. It's not wide as in good closed headphone wide but unnaturally wide open back akg k701 type of wide. It sounds really nice with crossfeed but without one it is definately weird.

Yep, I can confirm this! I had the exact same experience with those two and HM5 pads.

The pro80 has airtight pads already so putting an other airtight pad on them won´t change much..
So your findings is what could be expected..

Sorry for posting this again but i guess everyone missed my post on the previous page. Does anyone know of any replacement headphone cables that would fit the takstar HD 5500? These are the same cables that they use in some of their other headphones with detachable cables.
