For those interested in getting a HI 2050, I went with aliexpress and the company Peaceful Taste E-commerce Co., Ltd.  If you are a new member to aliexpress, you can get a $5 off coupon if you use mastercard (make sure not to sign up before this offer which you can find on the main page).  Peaceful Taste has a $2 off coupon, so those two together brought the final total to about $45.  Not a huge price difference to the HPT 990 on gearclubdirect, but I am patient (and cheap).

Cheap is good..

I'm thinking about buying the Brainwavz HM5 pads mentioned earlier in the thread. Maybe they will bring more padding, more seal and more bass. Anyone here think I should try them for $17?

Edit: Just placed an order on a whim after going back a few pages in the thread. I cannot wait for the Pro80 to arrive!

I'm sure that you will not regret this. The HM5 pads make them go from comfy to super duper comfy.

Those have been around forever and the takstar 2050 is confirmed to be a rebrand manifactured by greathon.

Uh. I checked that out. The Greathon ones, according to the webpage, have a different frequency responce (15Hz-28KHz) compared to the specs on the Takstar box (15Hz-25KHz)
Also, the Greathon ones say they have an impedance of 60 ohms, while the 2050 have 64 ohms.

So, not sure if they are really or not. Could just be an error on the website.

They might be the exact same headphone, but might claim slightly different specs on one, so as they do not directly compete against one another.

Would the HM5's fit the hi 2050 as well? Would those be better than the beyers? Im hunting for something super comfy, and to insulate for gaming

I don't have the HI2050 but it's my understanding that he same pads fit both HI2050 and Pro80.

I think the shape could be the same but the quality might not.

They are for certain not the same price..

The Superlux models also got a lot of flak, but they turned out to sound better than the originals from AKG, so my guess would be that they are better and cheaper, my reason for saying so is that it looks like an old model, meaning that AKG probably have not updated drivers to more efficient and modern ones, which I am quite certain that Takstar would do if they just take over the cups and headbands..

We need to remember that eventhough most members here are from the western part of the world, a country like China/India has so many people that "local" companies can expand and devolop inside their borders and we will never have a clue about it, because they got enough custumers in their own region, the western companies have to cross borders to sell enough, China has more potential custumers than Europe and USA toogether so they do not need to cross those borders..

The result of those things is that a very popular brand (and good) can outsell Sennheiser and none outside of China would know..

I do not one second believe that producing a pair of DT880 cost 5 times as much to produce, as a pair of Hi2050, I actually think that the 2050 with its much bigger driver is more expensive to produce than the beyers...
You can not even buy a pair of pads for DT880 for the price of a set 2050, those pads ARE better, but not really worth the price..

Hi. I've got a question, I think especially for the Claus and his tons of experiences with budget amp-phones pairing. I'm thinking of getting(at last) some dac-amp for my hi-2050. Should I pick zero dac, ha info da1 or aune T1(very like this one...don't know why). Preferred style of music is minimalism(Glass, Nyman,  Mertens, ten Holt etc.). I can also try to wait for modi and magni(when they cross the ocean and came to old Europe)...but you know, I don't know, if I wanna wait.
