Thank you very much for this knowledge

First time I went to that site I couldn't tell at all, and now I haven't got any wrong one in 12 or so tries. Practice makes perfect, like with anything. Kind of made me question why I had 320kbit/s on my portable, so that's down to 190 now.

I got it wrong 100% first time and got it right 93% second time. Stopped 24 hours in between. They're very difficult tracks and I'm using quite a bit of equipment (IDK if that even matters but I figured it's worth mention) but it takes practice. Once you notice it, you can't unnotice it... Don't let this thing stop anyone from keeping a lossless record of all your good songs...

ok i just ripped 'the pink panther' theme by mr. henri mancini

128, 320 and wav lossless [1411 Kbps]

i put the 3 files in the same folder and turned away from my computer / told my co-worker to fire up a track and let it play for a bit - it wasn't even close, i knew which was each each time without fail

source:  random dell pc digital out

dac/amp:  fiio e7 e9

cans:  grado 125i / fostex t50rp [both stock]

i cannot tell the difference from the site though, i listened intently to the two clips back to back / makes me wonder if there even is a difference - i don't know anything about webpagebuilding or i'd pull the source code apart and find the raw data of the files and compare them directly...

It's fairly difficult. Tricky songs... I can't even tell what makes me tell the difference. I just get it right almost everytime now.

yeah. As stated, I notice the bitrate of songs in my library whereas with the site, I got around 50%.

I got 8/10 correct. Had to listen to the tracks multiple times.

Answered the two first wrong and gave up.

NOOOOO

I'm just a bit frustrated that I can't tell 320kpbs and 128 kbps apart, which makes me think why should I even download lossless anyways.

Of course I'm not using good headphone because I can, but to appreciate the aspects of music that couldn't be discovered by bad headphones. I know that my ears are fairly untrained, and I don't know how besides listening more.

The difference between those bitrates is only very prevalent in songs/music with complex mix of sounds or voices; low bitrate tends to gloss over the nuances that the higher bitrate rips will show.

If it's a simple music sequence then there should hardly be any difference.

It's like piecing together a square with large blocks vs smaller blocks, vs piecing together a CIRCLE with those same blocks.

After doing my own ABXing with WinABX, I guess I;m not practiced enough, as I cannot tell the difference between WAV rips and 128kbps MP3 rips... Going to the site mentioned by the OP only confirmed that I can't tell the difference.

I used an Etymotic Mc5 with WinABX, and a UE TripleFi 10 on the website.

For those who could tell, what did you listen for, and what part of the sound made you notice the difference?

I just realised I forgot to post my results before (8/10). Well I've unfortunately cleared my results before but I'm having another go; so far I'm on 7/7.

Chronological results:

EDIT:

In the end I finished with 8/10 again.

Come on lads, don't bother posting results to show off unless you go to at least 25 with full 100% accuracy.

Like so. tongue.gif

It's all in the hips, and by hips, I mean attack.
