Unfortunatly I cant know what your real taste are when it comes to a sound signature, but the following are known to have a great bass responce for under the 200$ mark (Often much cheaper if you look around)

- V-moda Crossfade
-Sony MDR-XB700
-Audio Technica ATH-m50
-Denon D2000

If you can find the denons for under 200, you gotta share where you got them from!

The PROs are actually pretty good, easily the best of the Beats' line.  The problem however, is its price.  For the 400 dollars or so the PROs cost there are headphones that can had with much better fidelity.  The Ultrasone PRO900 for example, delivers one of the best, hardest hitting bass responses of any headphone, while at the same time delivering exceptional detail and resolution.  It can be had for about the same or even less(depending on where you look) than the Beats PROs.  That's just one example, others include Denon's D2000, Sennheiser's HD650, Beyerdynamic's DT770, all with same theme of excellent bass and excellent overall sound quality.

It mostly boils down to two reasons why the Beat's line is not loved here:

1. The price is much higher than the actual sound performance(overpriced)

2. The headphone line enjoys a great deal of attention when other more deserving brands don't

If you feel that the you've reached the kind of the ideal sound performance you want with the PROs, then more power to you.  Many of us are still looking for that ideal headphone.  Just don't expect us to embrace Mr. Dre's marketing machine.

Xb 500 the heaviest bass i have ever found in headphone and yes i do own a piar of beats solo hd and i also love the bass but the xb 500 blows it out out the water in every way sound is just better and is not muddy (not to metion very very equ'able) mening u can make it go very deep or u can make it very mid bass heavy

xb700 again complety blows the solo away... but still the xb 500 has the slight advatge

xb1000 avoid....

this is just my opinon :)

DT 770 PRO's are great like i said i own one. In fact they are my favorite cans but they're just not loud enough. When you crank up the volume (even with Fiio E11) bass just distorts. But they're great anyway. I also think Beats PRO are really expensive and i never tried it out myself since i just own SOLO HD.

A good can like the DT 770 shouldn't distort at loud volumes, check your source.

This basically explains why I don't like Beats. They measure terribly, like headphones that cost significantly less money. The Monster Beats Solo HD measures worse than a $20 headphone -- not even joking. It can't render the sound waves close to correctly at all, there is a horrible THD+noise, the channels are terribly matched which implies terrible quality control. There are headphones for cheaper that have even more bass punch than the Beats, like many mentioned in this thread, while also not completely failing at the raw measurements. Beats succeeds are having amazing marketing while also having one of the worst price-to-performance products in the headphone world.

It is possible that he is mistaking the all the distortions from his Beats for musicality, which is understandable and it happens to a lot of people.

I always wanted to try a pair of Beats, but it wasn't until today that I first got the chance to try a pair of Solo's. From what I've read, people have said that they're pretty bad, but I was open to the possibility that anything short of nearly perfect would be considered as "bad" or that people just like to have something to bash on, which is natural for a human being.

I only had to listen for a minute before I was able to make up my mind about them though. I don't think you can describe them other than that they're very bass-focused, which necessarily isn't a bad thing, but the quality of the bass was just so bad. Extremely muddy, hardly any detail, forever present even though it shouldn't have been, in my opinion, and at the cost of mids and highs, which were of lesser quality. I couldn't help but feel sorry for the random guy that I asked to borrow them of off, so I pleasantly returned them and said "that's a lot of bass".

Edit: A pair of Koss Porta Pro's sound way better at a fraction of the price.

well everything. Sure, Ultrasone's has better treble and mids but if bass is the only thing you care for, and if you listen to hip-hop - electronic music i think Beats can not be beaten. Because i believe every headphone is designed to listen to certain type of music, and Beats are created to listen to Electronic, Hip-Hop, Pop and alike.

So can please someone explain why do you hate beats so much (please don't tell me they sound muddy, or lack treble because like i told you there are some people just like to hear a hard punch in their ears)

Well you see, many people have polar opposite feelings that you do.  I love bass heavy headphones, but they also need to be clear, and not sacrifice highs.  I'm sorry but the bass on Beats solo and Studio Pro's are very muddy and loose.  I like a lot of bass and used to install custom car audio systems and you sound like the guy who's arguing his Kicker Comp 15's sound better than a pair of 12" JL W7's.  If you don't know what I'm talking about, quantity does not equal quality.  Sure some dubstep sounds good with beats (newer Skrillex varieties) but I'd never listen to trance, ambient/minimalist, glitch, trip hop, or vocal trance without strong highs and decent mids.  Hip-hop sounds pretty good but even the vocals get messed up, same thing with pop.  Pros are good, but double what their competition costs.

Break those 580's in and throw a +8 - 10db bass boost and re-assess your opinion.  Beats have a huge natural bass boost, and go rather deep but they do not produce the same punch, clarity,  and pressure than those Ultrasones are capable of.  Toss in the fact that you can still hear the entire sound spectrum, well that's why I don't care for Beats.  Too much high/mids for you, get some Sony XB 500's.

Still not happy, Beats Pro are a much better value at the $250(refurb from Monster) prices online right now.

Seriously guys (and girls obviously) why do you hate Beats so much. I wasn't a member of this site but i was following the forums for information. After reading about how the Beats sucked (even though i had PRO Solo's and loved them), i decided to buy another pair of cans... Everyone seemed to praise the Ultrasone's HFI-580, and they said it had great bass. One of the members even said that it had better bass than Beats Pro's. So i went to the store today and bought one. (Since i live in Turkey i didn't have a choice to listen them before buying) So here is the deal, i know it has to burn-in for a while but for now it doesn't even come close to the bass that Solo HD's has. It is more punchy, more lively and more... well everything.

Thank you all for your comments in advance

By the way, here is a list of other headphones i owned:

AKG Q701

Beyerdynamic DT-770 PRO

Shure SE 215 In-Ear

Beats Solo HD

Ultrasone HFI-580

And my amps

Fiio e5

Fiio e11

Oh wow. Where to start... First, for the money those cost, you can get someone to literally punch your ears, which should still be more satisfying to most than listening to the Beats. Also, if someone feels this way - MOAR BASS, LOL WUT IZ TRABLE? - then Head-Fi isn't for them. There is a whole spectrum of music out there. There are things like detail, soundstage, you know, small stuff. If you only want bass, maybe music just isn't your thing. That's like a guy going to a gourmet food forum and asking why do people whine so much about flavor when all he eats is gravy.

And also, even if someone is obtuse to the point of only wanting bass, even there the Beats suck. I know you don't want people to tell you "it's muddy, blah blah blah", but that's exactly it: even if all you want is bass, the Beats' bass is bad. It is distorted and (in the Solo's case) doesn't extend that deep. It's not tight, it's just flabby. In small words, it's bad. And only for 300$ - wow!

Just keep your 750's, take your DAP, turn the EQ on, set every single frequency below 500Hz to 0 and just enjoy your punch in the ears - which will be much better than the Beats at half the price.

From my admittedly brief audition of the Beats, I have to concur.  Even if you don't care about mids, treble, soundstage, and other aspects of audiophile-oriented headphones, the bass on the Beats just doesn't cut it.  It doesn't have the deep bass extension that real basshead cans do, so it won't play the lowest notes in some songs with much authority and presence, and the quality and clarity of the bass it does have is pitiful.  If you want something with similar "kicking" bass, I'd consider:

Sony XB-500
Audio-Technica Pro 700 Mk2
V-Moda Crossfades (these have other issues as well that wouldn't make them an overall strong recommendation, but should still be superior to the Beats in the bass department)
Ultrasone Pro 900
Skullcandy Skullcrusher (these have even worse quality than the Beats and thus I wouldn't recommend them, but should have even more mid-bass impact than the Beats if you're just looking to rattle your head, regardless of quality)

Those should all have similar or even more mid-bass than either the Beats or the HFI-580s.

If nothing else, try the Sony XB-500 for less than $50.  In dozens and dozens of threads I've read on basshead cans I have yet to find a single person who finds the Beats to have more bass.
