Looking for a Foobar and wasapi equivilent for ubuntu. Essentially just want to be able to play flac and send things straight to the dac, probably through USB. Does rhythmbox work for this or do I need additional/better programs or anything?

Any DAC which works with Ubuntu (and I haven't heard of one having problems recently) will work with any audio player you like: Rhythmbox, mpd, audacious -- they're all fine.  I don't like the features/UI of Rhythmbox, but in terms of SQ it's the same as any other player.

Pulseaudio on Ubuntu will probably re-sample everything to redbook resolution, so the only problem could be if you have HD FLAC files.

Actually - I'm using Foobar 2000 through wine as my primary player (Debian Sid).  I just like the idea that it is open source, runs incredibly well - and yes - I'm using wasapi as well.  Best thing is that so far all the dsp plugins work as well - including dolby hph.

I used Amarok for a long time - but foobar (for me) is just better.

Eventually I'll look for a native player that is as good - but so far nothing I've seen comes close.

Desktop running Debian Sid > spdif out (coax) to Audio-gd NFB-12 > HD600

Oh and I have no issues outputting pure 24/96 either

Pure bliss

Foobar isn't open-source. It uses various open components, but the core is closed.  Not that it matters to me, but if it does to you...

Thanks for the correction :)

No it doesn't worry me - as I still believe it's the best tool for the job.  I guess I should instead say - it's a freeware application, open to component modifcation, with a strong and active community following.
