I'm on a Mac, do I still need a windows machine to remove rockbox?

Yeah, I do think you still need to have a PC. You should just upgrade.

have to say that ive used rockbox since yesterday and nothing is wrong or unstable here. It looks good , it is booting quick, i lost the static on my hm602 that was barely audible yet was there... iam actually using the DAP again.

Not gonna be trying this after all. Have sold the HM-801 and kept the Colorfly C4

Seriously doubt it.

HM-601 is better in every way, because it can be
modified in various ways. Studio has just an "all in one" chip and sound-tweakers.

Hell would freeze over before that happened

However studio is build like a tank and the battery lasts for ever. If I were to drop them both I would try to catch the 601 and make sure my toes were out of the way of the Studio

Modified HM-601 sounds better than HM-602. I would definitely choose it over Studio.

The key word is modified. Not everyone is technically inclined to do such modifications. And where are the postings to such mods? Also have you heard the current Studio V? I'm not talking about Studio I. They are both different. Also the fact of voiding any warranty support really isn't appealing on a $260.00 DAP.

I don't know if there are such posts on head-fi. In Russia we have at least two specialists, who make such modifications. One of them currently does it for money. HM-601 rarely break after they've solved the button problem. I voided my warranty support when I first tried Rockbox (the first version) on HM-601. :)

I still doubt that all in one chips can sound better than modified HM-601.
