Sigh here we go again, how do the 780s compare to others like the V6,570,and 590. I listen to pretty bassy music and would the 780s work for me? All the reviews Ive read talk about classical music and the like, which I never listen to.

I've owned the V6s twice, and currently the CD780s, and the latter blow away the former overall. Generally I don't think it's close (I prefer the KSC35s over the V6s also), however some have made comments about the 780s lack of bass (I don't have a problem) ... and though some feel it's overdone, the V6s excel in this department (why they are often recommended for movies and games). The mids and highs though are ruled by the CD780s. The mids are recessed on the V6 and the highs are its unforgiveable sin. I think the 780s make good rock, etc. phones. Never thought of them as purely classical or anything. They're pretty dynamtic. If isolation isn't necessary I say go with the 780s, but if it is a desire or you're a bass lover at heart, the V6s are likely a better choice. They're both pretty articulate cans.

I don't have much experience with the others.

Okay, this is probably my 1000th pro-780s post!

As others have said, the CD780 is a good general-purpose can. I think the reason people bring up classical is that the V6 is, ummm, really not well-suited to classical (read: sucks), but the CD780 is fine for it. However, I don't think the CD780 sacrifices anything in terms of rock performance to achieve this. I think it just all-around sounds better.

Haven't heard the 570 or 590.

The CD780 is good allround phone, and the most comfortable out there - ever.
Soundstage, mids and highs are really the strong points on this headphone.. however, bass isn't. It's not particularly bad, it just lacks punch/impact and the bass itself isn't particularly well textured either.
But ... it was good enough for me, a metal listener, to not think about upgrading for 2 years, so it can't be that bad, right?
