New Audeze LCD3

So for whatever this is worth...

I am not a cable believer really; I do believe that some cables have better form/function than others in terms of weight and comfort and durability however.

Recently got to a/b an older version Audeze balanced cable (the canare l4e6s variety) with balanced XLR terminations versus an alo reference 16 cable on lcd-3.  What I found just destroyed my world.  Basically the alo cable was a lot better than stock and I couldn't even listen to the stock cable afterwards.  To make sure I wasn't crazy I had a second stock cable which I re-terminated myself on both ends to make sure it wasn't terrible joints or something and same result.

The retail price on the alo cable is quite insane IMO but once I heard I cannot unhear :frowning2:

Looking at this from an objective POV is it possible the volume levels would need to be matched up each time?  In my swapping I just left the volume pot as-is.  Maybe the alo cable had less resistance and sounded louder ?  I didn't have a ton of time doing this comparison but what I heard took me completely by surprise.  Maybe the stock l4e6s is just that crappy.

Yeah, that's what happens. Once you've heard it there's no going back. Good cables do make a difference. Enjoy and sorry for your wallet.

Long story short, I'm in the same boat.  At first I couldn't hear the difference.  Upon upgrading my amp I had to send my cable back for re-termination.  This meant going back to the stock cable after having used the Q on the new amp for a few weeks.  I wasn't expecting to hear any difference (because I didn't before on my vintage receiver) but when I plugged the stock cable in I could hear the difference immediately.

Guy with a small budget for amp/dac here. Would the modi be enough with the Asgard 2? Cheap as hell I know but I really dislike paying a lot for amps/dacs

LCD-3 on an entry level rig is great way to write off top shelf headphones for life   I'd sit pretty with the HE-400 if I was you.

For the LCD-3s?

It will work, you will hear music.  It wont be no where near the best the LCD-3s can do.  Sooner or later (sooner) you will have to upgrade the amp / DAC to get what the LCD-3s have to offer.

Then I'd say consider a cheaper headphone. Why spend 1950$ and not get the performance. Comparing my Burson Soloist to the headphone output in my DACmini is like night and day for LCD3. But I lived without it for 6 months until I could afford. Definitely glad I upgraded. Incredibly satisfying. :)

What is the point in even having the LCD3 if you're not going to feed it right? Must be a troll... Just go on over to Walmart and get yourself a pair of Logitech phones for 30 dollars and call it done then. Plug into your puter and get your just rewards.

I'd say go for it if you can. I'd say get something like an Emotiva mini-x-a-100 ($189), it will drive the LCD-3 far better than Asgard 2. Stick with whatever DAC you have for now. If you already have the Asgard, then it's okay, use it for some time before you can upgrade.

Question for Soloist owner. Dont you hear a faint 'click' noise when you move the volume level? I heard this 'click' is getting louder over time?

Personnally i own the Conductor and the fainth click you mention is actually more like CLICK CLICK sometimes its not always loud but its always there Burson says to clean the attenuator with wd40 but i figure it did it when it was new so how dirty can it be its only 5 months old wont start screwing around with that but makes you wonder how normal is this other than that its perfect

Plenty of people feed the HD800/LCD-3, etc etc with the Objective gear. That rig would be livable.

Not sure about the ODAC, although the O2 with both LCD-2 and LCD-3 is quite horrible.
