TO those who know... Would go for the W3000ANV or the W5000?

Depends on your preference in sound. Both will have a somewhat similar overall balance (level of bass, focus on gorgeous and intricate mids, well extended, shimmery highs) but the presentation will differ a bit. The W5000 is airier overall, while the W3000ANV has more solidity and weight to it. The W5000 is more prone to fit issues notoriously, so keep that in mind. Also I personally feel the W3000ANV is a more sophisticated headphone overall.

Heh, the fit is a very personal thing. Appears that ATH-W5000 and ATH-W1000X are somewhat similar in construction. And for me the TH-W1000X fitted much better than ATH-W3000ANV. Of course they might be different, I have not tried ATH-W5000. But unless you have a very large and round head, don't expect ATH-W3000ANV to fit right away. Just my opinion and advice.

I'd say W3000 as it has a much more enjoyable sound. The W5000 is more neutral, for an AT at least.
As for the fit, I have about the opposite of a round head and have no fit issues with any of the AT's.
I love how they feel so light and aren't clamping.
The only thing I seem to have fit issues with are IEM's.
And to compare, the LCD2 felt heavy and sturdy to me, not really enjoyable to wear.
So you see, fit will probably be a very personal thing.

Fit is definitely a totally personal thing: it's how it fits YOUR head that's important. I think it's quite possible we don't hear as much about fit issues with the W3000ANV compared to the W5000 because the former is newer, and fewer people own it.

The thing to remember is, the fit can be compensated for with some minor adjustments to the arc assembly. If you're brave enough to bend a $1400 headphone, of course. : )

I thought fit was bad at first too and almost immediately gave up on the phones.  Then I read a post in this thread giving advice on how to adjust the headphones. They said not to worry about breaking the medal rods, hold the end of the rods (where the Right and Left are) and give it a press like \ /.  Well I gave them a few good presses (I have a narrow head) and voila I had a great fit, just as if I was pressing the cups to my ears.

If that is true, our headphones are very different. = ) You're either not getting a good seal, or your head is large or round. My head is pretty average, and there was absolutely no way to wear them straight away. There was a clear gap above my ears.

Well, as I said before in this thread, I am tall (1m92) and skinny so my head probably isn't the smallest being that tall but it's certainly thin, about as opposite to round as it gets.
I'm getting a fine seal with all the ATs, no gap anywhere honestly.

Earlier in this thread we were talking about the fit with MuppetFace and she said she has no fit issues either being a "diminutive female" if I recall her words correctly.

So I still think the fit is a rather personal thing and isn't solely based on the overall shape of one's head (round vs. thin for example).

You guys and girl are soooo bad and my wallet hate you!!
I just broke down and order a pair of the W3000JPN from PriceJapan. I really hope they are better than my former W11JPN and close or better than my ESW10JPN.
For all the reading I have done here and the PM from AppleheadMay I think I will like them. I think I have similar sound taste with Skylab (we both love our B&W speakers) and the fact he sold his beloved R10 and kept these is a big statement.

Pascal, thanks for all your help..... my wallet is not taking you!

Well... I was comfortable in my mid-fi cans, done buying headphones and gone from the forum for about 6 months... then one day I remember that I wanted to get the 50th anniversary phone, whatever it is and logged in, a quick search and boom,  a little lighter in the wallet.

Friend just sent me the tracking number so I am hoping to get it before the weekend.

Also preordered the Ibasso DX100 DAP.

I am done with this forum! you hear me? DONE!
