Portable closed-back headphones?

Hey Ghost. I've got the P5, and I can tell you that if I had money to spend I would actually just get the Sony ZX700. The ZX700 is fairly cheap in Aus (you could get it for 150 at a Sony Centre if you ask well under your budget) and even cheaper overseas. Why I recommend the 700 is that its overall better balanced than the P5, with a better cable and a more comfortable circumaural design over the P5's supraaural design. Especially in Summer when the leather gets quite stuffy against the ears.

As for online retailers that ship to Australia, among others there is:
accessoryjack
Soundearphones
earphone solutions

Or use a mail forwarding service in conjunction with shopping from Amazon.

Accesoryjack, Soundearphones and earphone solutions have good prices, but I'm very interested in the Beyerdynamic DT1350. Is there a retailer who sells the Beyer?

How do these headphones stack up against IEMs? I own the Ultimate Ears 700 at the moment, these headphones have to be twice as good if they cost three times as much. The UE triplefi 10 costs $220, which puts it in contention with these...

It's a question of the kind of sound and style you are comfortable with.

Portables don't necessarily give better sound simply because they are on ear - I have some iem's which sound fantastic. But as expected that sound is more inside your head - the portables open it up a bit more giving a larger sound stage, adding a little weight and body to the experience. But technically they don't produce better sound.

Spend your money on portables if you like the fit, comfort, style better than good iems. If you want significant improvement ("twice as good") to the sound you're looking at full size cans. I don't take mine around town - I use iem's for that. Where my portables get great use is going on vacation, sitting at the lake, visiting relatives, using my laptop in bed, in the backyard. In these settings I have a portable amp that makes the 1350's sing and I appreciate the things that the portables bring to the equation.

I'd recommend the PX line...if you can find the original PX 100s or 200s, try those. Really good sound, not too expensive (although a pair of the original ones might cost you a little more now) incredibly small and lightweight.

But when you say they're veiled and dark, how veiled and dark are they? Will they beat my current Ultimate Ears 700 canalphones? And I don't wear glasses

I wish I could compare the two but have no experience with any UE products personally.
I got the P5 because it was a great deal, like so good no one would pass it up.  Had I the $300 I would have bought something else.  That's nothing against the P5 but it fills a need I don't have in the portable can department.  I really would rather have a nice desktop setup instead.  Sorry to veer off topic a bit.

Say if I were to use the Beyerdynamic DT1350 with my iTouch, how powerful an amp would I need to achieve somewhat "complete" sound? I'm hoping I can use a relatively miniscule amp like the Fiio E1...
