I have heard some pretty negative stuff about the D3; I personally know someone who has one, and he was complaining that it was rather laggy and buggy. I would suggest you get the D3's successor, the Cowon Z2. It's essentially an improved version of the D3. :)

If your planning on going into Z2 territorry check out the Sony WM-Z its the best DAP out IMO

Ginger BRead update, yea the D3 was slow b4 the Ginger BRead update, but after wards it runs just fine

I don't know if the HFI-780 should be considered basshead worthy. They have less bass than the M50s I have. The 780s are more suited towards trebleheads.

ahh, yes plus I don't really need to buy anything elese, the D3's EQ and my E6 should be enough for me to balance out what ever im listening to

Well, I was replying to Parall3l's post, but I guess it will cover both posts :) I believe the HFI-580 or ATH-M50s are the better headphones to get if you like to have bass though. Here's a little frequency comparison graph to demonstrate:

If you want the bassiest headphones, you can take a look at the ATH-PRO700MKII.

Anyways, I was wondering why the Cowon D3/J3 is highly recommended for a DAP. Is it just because of the eq enhancements it offers? I think that the samsung galaxy player lineup is the better player for the money.

Geek Speech:
It will be a matter of time until somebody is able to enable USB host on the galaxy player, allowing amp/dacs like the FiiO E17 to run through the micro usb port. Heck, people have already ported Cyanogenmod 7/9 on the galaxy players with modded kernels and whatnot.

Lawl if your basing bass response on FR chart, look at the FR for Sony XB 700... It starts up and around 20 (dbr) and goes down, hence is why XB700 isn't really great for more tradtional music as the mids are not as pleasent as they could be

What I'm looking for is a more detailed quality bass can, Ultra Pro 900 is regulary $500... so that sounds like a great can to get next :3 [300 on B&H]

I'm getting a D3 soon, with optical out cord, I'll let you know how it is ;D

Psh lies, the XB 700 doesn't sound bad at all, with an E6 it's pretty cool, with an E11 it's most epic. Plus you can mod the XB700 for better highs and deeper Sub bass detail... so don't be hating xD, but also don't listen to any jazz on the XB series lol they pretty much fail with anything that's not meant to be dark

Glad to be of help, Parall3l. :)

Did you try adding a new list? I'm not sure if it works..

Ginger BRead update, yea the D3 was slow b4 the Ginger BRead update, but after wards it runs just fine

My friend tells me that it still runs slow after the upgrade to Gingerbread. I'm not sure how bad it is, since I never got to play with the D3. Still, if you have the cash to spend, you might want to consider either the Cowon Z2 or the Sony Walkman Z, 2 of the best DAPs out there. :)

From memory, the HFI 780 produces more bass than the M50, albeit not as much as its sibling, the HFI 580. The latter is much bassier than the M50, both in quantity and quality.

Ampless, both the XB700 and PRO700MK2 produce roughly equal levels of bass quantity. Both are very punchy and produce a rumbling low end that has a slow decay to it. The XB500 has greater mid-bass quantity than both cans, and this is readily apparent due to enhanced impact and attack.

In terms of bass quality, all 3 are roughly similar, but if I'll nitpick, I'd say the PRO700MK2 details the bass notes with more clarity. All 3 are extremely fun cans that all bassheads should try/own. :)

When I first got the pros (this is when I just used the dt250 pads, nothing else), they sounded VERY similar to my m50s (also with dt250 pads on), bass quantity and all. I'll do a short comparo between the Pros, M50s, and the GBH-1000 (my modded pros. Check sig for more info):

Bass Pros: More controlled, focused, deeper
Bass M50s: Wider, More rumble, a bit more impact than the pros, but is more muddy.
Bass GBH: combine characteristics above (minus the muddiness) and double impact.

Mids Pros: Beefy, a bit congested, recessed
Mids M50s: Recessed, thin
Mids GBH: Airy, forward, really good imaging

Treble Pros: Smooth, Distant
Treble M50s: Sparkly, Sharp, Airy
Treble GBH: Combine characteristics above and add more emphasis

Soundstage Pros: Not very wide, but has depth
Soundstage M50s: Wider than Pros, seems to extend more vertically than the Pros, more separation.
Soundstage GBH: Tough one to describe, but it is better than both. Great separation and blackness. It's easier to recognize the placement than the other cans. I believe that it is larger than both.

Thanks for the info. Seems like I won't be buying them after all. If the Stock pros rival them, then that means my version will blow them out the water

I guess that's because I have the earlier version of the M50s (Blue Box) which is known to have more bass emphasis. Maybe Parall3l should add the M50s Blue Box version to the list. Mine rivals the Pro's with velour pads installed on both headphones.

When both are stock, my m50s have more bass impact than the pros (the pads on the pros are at fault).

I edited this about 5 6 times, but this is the final final one...
