I just wanted to share, if anyone does end up buying the AK4396 Miracle DAC I linked to earlier, it's only COAX in and RCA out, but I found a really nice looking USB to COAX/optical/IIS/BNC (!!) converter here called the Teralink X2 - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Native-24bit-96k-USB-Spdif-I2S-Converter-DAC-/290466510897

It supports ASIO too, more info here - http://www.teradak.com/en/product_view.asp?ID=203

I'm pretty sure it supports DTS and AC3 as well, not sure why they don't advertise that.

I might buy one later and sell my CD player, if I can play CD's in my laptop in foobar with ASIO sent to this that is...

What is your CD player?  as I was intending to get the scph 1001 playstation 1, as it is considered one of the best CD players in the world,  the scph 1001 batch only!

My CD player isn't fancy, just a huge Sony DVD player, it plays DVD-Audio nicely at least and I currently have it connected to the AK4396 miracle DAC with a fat COAX cable and to my stereo receiver with optical.

To be technical it's not the CD playing mechanism in the Playstation 1 that's famous, it's the DAC section. Sony put everything into the Playstation 1, I remember reading on the news Saddam Hussein ordered 1000's of them to use some of Sony's components in heat-seeking missiles.

They did that again with the PS3, the first units were "all out" with hardware PS1 and PS2 support, SACD support, 4 USB's, etc, then they streamlined it and took away features to get the price down.

The early PS1 units used the Asahi Kasei AK4309 DAC chip and NJM2100 opamp if what I'm looking at is correct.

I am seeing a pattern with "AK" and "NJM" used in a lot of quality stuff...

One day I'm going to connect my PS2 with optical to a high-end DAC into the EHP-O2 for fun, I want to see how good videogames can sound.

I may possibly buy this when I've sold my HM-601 - http://www.teradak.com/en/product_view.asp?ID=207

I want to 1. Revisit NOS, 2. Connect it to my PS2, 3. Connect it via USB, and it fulfills all those criteria.

I will be using the EHP-O2 as a reference amp to compare the different DAC's, right now I don't really have any decent amplifier or equipment for testing these DAC's...

Nah I just spend 94% of my time researching audio components, 5% of my time exploring new music, and 1% of my time making or practicing music.

I have to change this now.

Also my washing machine is broken so I have to go down the street to a laundromat, spend some time doing work / making money, and revamp my room.

Anyway you're welcome. :)

I don't know anything about the T70 or the HE-500 so I can't help you there.

I really like my T5p and as you said you preferred it to the T1 too.

When I was at that last high-end meet, I think I realised there is "reference" sound which you admire, and then there is "involving" sound which you enjoy.

For me, T1 is reference and T5p is involving.

STAX is mostly reference I think, but I found the K1000 quite musical and involving, a nice mixture.

A2000X is reference, yet still quite intimate.

For me, I don't feel the desire to go higher than the T5p, unless it's custom IEM's, or possibly a magical STAX or open-air headphone or something.

From the "low-end" meet I went to, I didn't like 40 of those 46 demo headphones, but I liked how overly involving the Skullcandy Uprock was with vocals, percussion and guitar, very similiar to the Grado SR325i, so I bought three of them, two for christmas presents and one for me when I feel like listening to garagerock or alternative rock on a flimsy headphone where I don't care if it breaks or I lose it, the box said it had twin driver circuitry or something which might explain why I liked it.

Oliver emailed me from Epiphany Acoustics and said he'll be shipping the EHP-02 quite soon, January is going to be my best audio month ever, hopefully with the EHP-02, Gui Ling custom IEM's, T5p, an assortment of DAC's, and the Sony XBA-4.

I'm looking forward to the Teclast X19HD next week and will update that thread when I receive it.

Edit: I'm hoping to pick up the Teradak 3.1 and the new open-air Shure as well, if I can afford them next month, or in January.

Fostex HP-A8 with a new SACD collection is just a pipe-dream right now.

Oh well, time to go to the laundromat and watch a video on my T51 with EX700's.

I'm hoping it's 100% leather, velour and steel, with sapphire or diamond evaporated 940 drivers, detachable dual-mono 3.5mm jacks, less than $500, optional leather earpads, optional SDHC slot for portable use without cables.

Christ, they wouldn't also happen to summon a Gundam as well with that wish list, would they? XD

Great news indeed, cant wait for my O2, the teradak guys confirmed that it costs $260, so its not bad, I think, but how did you come to know about it and how it compare to other more expensive DAC like Centrance Dacport, happy laundry....
