It's the akashi texas with the akm4396 chip.. I guess I will try it next year. Lol gonna spend some time with my Fiio E10 and zo2 first. lol

Sit back and wait for all the gadgets to come out next year and see if I still have the upgrade bug.  I read the article kiteki posted about the 'rainbow' thing from 1980's and that quite hit the home run for me :)

Long discussion about this AK4396 DAC and how to tweak them on this link: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-source/186245-dac-2496-ak4393-dac-kit-cs8416-ak4393-5532-a.html

The discussion included the history of this DAC which is originally use AK4393 and then after the designer involved in the forum and listen to many inputs, he changed the chip into AK4396.

I have decided on getting the AK4396 DAC with the usb to spdif converter, Kiteki, how did you find it compared to the T51 comparing the same track, and would you advise me to wait, for your complete review against the Sabre with the O2.

The CentranceDac LX is for $300, and many many loved it and even favored it for the Fostx (http://www.headfonia.com/cheaper-better-the-centrance-dacport-lx/), I would really like a comparison between the LX and the DIY AK4396 DAC  (both utilizing the same DAC)

Thanks! I will read through that entire thread when I have time.

I have been to Tangerang when I was working in Jakarta the latest time by the way. :)

I don't really feel like speculating on how the Asahi Texas compares with mainstream Apple-like products, it's like comparing an Apple computer with a high-end DIY desktop computer.

The AK Texas with a Teralink X2 or Musiland 01 USD has 10 times more internal components and richer feature-set than the LX, if that helps. A fairer comparison would be with the Audio Technica AT-HA70USB or the DAC on the front of Stereophile this month.

Actually I had the chance to try a Centrance at a certain audio store overseas but they kinda pushed them on everyone in the store and that made it look like an inflated product to me.

The review you linked, he said by removing the Volume knob the sound quality went up 20%, like, if you say so.

Thank you again for the more information on AK Texas. Based on what I read on the diyforum, the AK Texas does heat up quite a bit and gets hot. Not sure if it's super hot or like just warm ?

Are you experiencing any issues as such ?

thanks!

Oh My... The AK Texas just became #1 on my Christmas list!!!

And speaking of the AKM.. .did you know this soundcard has ... not 1 but "4"  akm chips on the board? LOL MADNESSS!! http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/soundcards/2011/02/26/auzentech-x-meridian-7-1-2g-review/1

Even when using the Fiio E6 I like the Texas a lot more, just compared the same CD.

You guys don't need to believe my raving but I think it's the best source I've heard in my personal opinion.

Like Uelover has pointed out, synergy matters too, a DAC will interact differently depending on the amplifier and kind of speakers and IEM's you're using, which is why ideally I'd like to check it with the O2, even if not completely necessary.

I haven't gone into much detail of the sound because I find it difficult to find the correct words when assessing a DAC or DAP.

My current dilemma is finding the right USB to COAX device for it, I must have spent 15 hours now just looking at them...

No I believe you, I know what the AKM's are capable of. Just it was not obtainable before this.  How does the AK Texas sound from your computer out of the teralinx  though may I ask ?

I think like what some one said.. to get a good USB to COAX device will run you up to $200. You probably read it on here anyways but I'm going to paste it anyways: http://www.amazon.com/M2TECH-hiFace-Hi-End-Output-Interface/dp/B004URVF1W

Maybe since you have more than one DAC, you could compare the soundstage and detail retrieval and bass? instrument separation compared to your other dacs you got   ?

I use a laptop, lol.

But hey, does it really use 4 X AK4396?? That's an impressive internal soundcard in that case, I tend to glance over soundcards but I have seen that one and another one (Audiotrak I think?) that use the AK4396.
