I've just recently purchased the grados. They are quite impressive! The open-sound was a put off at first and it may seem off-hand that the senns have better resolution because of this but I'm realizing that this is not so. I've only had the grados a couple of hours so I still can't make a proper comparison plus..i'm a newbie!

thoughts?

Cheers,
Sid

Welcome to Head-Fi.

Are the SR60s replacing your broken 250s? Haven't heard the 250s, but if they're anything like the PX200s, nice step up.

It all depends on the application...

For portable, the Senn PX250s (at least with old-school players) seem to have a certain synergy that makes them a compelling listen (especially with the Sony D25/25S/250)...

Ultimately though, yes... for home use, I'd expect the SR60s to win out...

Either way, welcome to head-fi sidmmm

In a ways, yes my sr60s are a replacement. But moreso in terms of portability, i'm simply not ready to spend 150-200$ for a portable amp. I may be a newbie but I know enough to know that a typical sony discman CAN NOT drive a pxc-250 adequately. I enjoy listening to my senns through my vintage Technics amp though, truly a beaut in that respect. To be quite honest, I hate the noiseguard feature! (but sHHH!)

I will get my PXC-250s fixed eventually, just a matter of time. And if I ever decide to get an amp I might start alternating between the grados and this for portable use.

About these SR60s; 1st. They're not NEARLY as uncomfy as people make them out to be. I just don't understand the people that say "as soon as i put them on i went 'arghh' ". Which brings me to my 2nd question. They ARE, after a couple of hours of use, beginning to hurt my ears, the directions to bend the headband? Also are there any cons to doing this. My final question; I've heard about cutting nickel sized holes in the pads, howto? pros/cons?

I appreciate the feedback guys! Happy to have found this site!

Hi Sid, welcome to head-fi.

Bending the headband will, if done correctly remove most if not all irritation (at least for me)
Just do it little steps at the time until you can wear the cans as long as needed.

there have been threads before on how to bend the band correctly, do a little search.

My SR60s came with instructions on bending the headband from Grado. Do it gently and gradually, you just don't want to overdo it so that they become annoyingly loose. My SR60s are very comfortable with the headband loosesned.

I've got the nickel sized holes in my comfy pads. I've also got Senn HD414 pads with and without holes. People's opinions as to what they prefer run the gamut. The SR60s are great phones, if I had to do it over again I'd probably just use the comfy pads unmodded and chill out and enjoy the music.
