Heya,

Why are you selling the Grados?

Very best,

i'm currently 'wwoofing', which means travelling and working/volunteering on farms in exchange for lodgings and food....there is no pay involved, so i find myself having to sell off parts of my studio to make enough money to keep on with the scheme

i also feel a little nervous carrying such expensive cans....will be selling the grados, and my apogee duet....

got some yuing g2a's for music listening, and thought of the superlux to get as something that i would feel comfortable travelling with that will offer me a good (or as good as i can get for cheap) window into my sound so i can keep making music with my laptop

your endorsement, along with others i have read, make me almost certain to grab the superlux...just need to find a good outlet to buy...maybe thomman in europe

i also got a little tired of the sound a while back, though this was just a temporary glitch.....they are great cans, though i'm sure i don't need to explain that here :)

I have the 662f, but have not heard the other. Just wanted to say that the build quality isn't all that great but its acceptable. Also, you might want to try removing the foam from under the ear cushions(takes no tools at all, the foam isn't even attached) that really opened this can up. Sounds great, man, I would never give up my Superlux's.

thanks for the reply :)

i guess at that price something has to suffer and i'd prefer it to be build quality....

thanks again

If you are interested, I have performed some simple mods which have really brought these cans into their own.

that sounds tempting...i will chase you up for them, at some point...i'm just trying to sell my grado's, here, first and then i have some money for the superlux (quite the downgrade :) )

thanks again for the offer...if you are okay with it, i will 'pm' you when i own the, unless you are happy to share them for anyone else following the thread :)

I will just go ahead and post it here so anyone interested can read about it. After listening to them for months, and for hundreds if not thousands of hours, I started to crave a little more treble. Thus started my modding. These mods will mainly increase the treble's detail and to a lesser extent its harshness, which I like.

First, I took off the foam under the earpads. This made the highs a little more forward but also helped a tad with the detail. This part is easily reversible if you want to try it out and see how you like it.

I then took off that damper (couldn't help myself, it said not to). This made the highs very detailed and harsh. It also increase the sound stage a bit. If it weren't for the over exaggerated "S"s I would have stopped there.

To help tame the highs, I took off the pads, unscrewed the 3 screws holding the driver in place, popped it off (the white band is attached to the driver's base so it comes off with it. I then slit the foam circles from earlier halfway through and put one behind each driver. The added impact to the bass, tamed the highs, and opened the sound stage more.

I think that the first and third mod made the most significant improvement to the sound, the second and third one aren't reversible, unless you get a new foam sheet for the third. Slitting it would make it ugly and ineffective as a dampener. Removing the damper is something which not everyone would appreciate and I would only suggest it if you really like to hear the highs bright and shiny (which I do).

Any questions, or if you would like something explained in more detail, or you need help which any part of this, feel free to post here or pm me.

You can see the foam inside of the cup behind where the driver goes. That is the same foam that was previously covering the driver. Hope that clarifies.

Yes, this is clearer but i don't know where is the screw? I have superlux 681 while it's not the same as 662f, it share almost design.

The screws on the 662f were extremely visible once you take off the ear cushion. Look around the rim of the plastic ring which holds the drivers. I have never seen the 681 in person so I can not say definitively as to their location.

*EDIT* Probably should have mentioned before, but 662f require massive burn in time. Like 50-100 hours.
