Er, I don't own the M40s? Not that I love the M40s or anything, but they are not what you guys put it as "a complete rip-off".

1. I said OWN, not tried. Everyone will have a different opinion of something after trying it for days, or even weeks.

I never said you don't, but I said it was wrong to bash it when all you heard was for a while. And I didn't even find it THAT bad.

By that reasoning, it is also 'wrong' to defend it when all you heard was for a while. And I didn't even find it THAT worth defending.

I was just saying that you don't have to be so harsh on it. But all you did was bash and bash, saying how it's inferior to the amperior and saying how the S4 sucks, and there are many people who agree that it's good.

I listened without bias, I promise. I actually WANTED it to be better than the Beats, I truly, honestly did. I am in the market for a pair of portables to match my MS400's appeal and provide better isolation and/or cancelation. I stood at Brookstone and pissed off quite a few people by holding them both and blocking people from trying other headphones for about 20 minutes while A/Bing the two, and despite not being able to believe my ears, I could not help but conclude that the Klipsch had inferior resolution, detail retrieval, and timbre to the Beats Studios. That's not something I would like to say about ANY headphone. I will say again that it could easily have been that the source they were using was not sufficient, but others have since seemingly refuted this theory.

I would love to go out and find a used pair of these for $250 if I thought they had good sound quality. I loved the build and the noise canceling feature is something I would really like for my train commute. But, I'm sorry, they were just bad.

But I would still rather pay more for something that does not sound as good, cost a bit more, but it can last for a long time compared to something that spoils within months even with good sound and costs less. And anyway, the M40 isn't THAT bad, you guys seem to be prejudiced against it. I would recommend listening without bias.

Well, I seriously thought the Beats were more bloated and muddy.

And I did try both of them without EQ, amp, just my mp3 player.

Well yeah, if you like balanced headphones. I tend to prefer mine with a touch extra bass, which the M40 does have in some measure, but to me they both lacked soundstage, resolution and detail retrieval to similar degrees, and the extra kick in the bass of the Beats made them comparably more fun to listen to. Again I'm not listening to them right now, but if memory serves I remember thinking that the Beats had an edge in detail retrieval.

Well, I got to admit I'm sensitive to bass. I use the ATH-SQ5 which is a very clean sounding headphone which I do love a lot. So the Beats won't appeal to me at all.

Well there you go :)

To be frank I can't say that I actually LIKED either; it was more than the oomph of the Beats' bass was at least something I can point at getting some enjoyment from.
