Hey guys, has anyone runs into the problem that ipod stops working when I close the backplate? When the ipod's on it becomes very laggy, when it's off it doesnt boot, just apple logo. sometimes it shows " ipod is broken needs restore ...something"  message or ipod with X.X face and apple.com/support/ipod link. When I try to connect it to my Pc, it shows very low battery and my pc doesnt recognize the ipod ( the battery is full btw) . Has anyone runs into the problem before?

my ipod is 5.5 gen 30gb using 32gb cf card + adapter combo from amazon

I just bought a 30GB 5G Ipod on Ebay and I'm planning to upgrade the HDD to the Toshiba 240GB MK2431GAH and run Rockbox.  I read that I need to replace the earphone jack and rubber bumpers for the HDD as well.  Is this true or is the fat rear cover the only part I need?

I would like to know this as well.  Also would like to know if the 120GB/160GB Toshiba MK1231GAL/MK1634GAL are compatible with the 5G 30GB.  I've been researching the web and also on ebay and some sellers say it will work and some say it won't.

Is it confirmed the 5g/30gb (not 5.5g/30gb) would work with the 240GB HDD?

I own one 30gb 5th gen iPod that was upgraded to the Toshiba 160 GB,Internal,4200 RPM,1.8 MK1634GAL Hard Drive and it works great with official software and RockBox.

Thanks for the reply! I think bad hdd cable(ribbon) causes the problem so I just ordered a new hdd cable off ebay. I hope my quess is right.Lol

You can take a close look at the metal pins of the cable. If they look damaged then it's likely the problem.

I had a problem with battery cable last week after I attached/detached it for so many times during a single night trying to get my CF card work. When I finally looked at the battery cable pins, I saw a couple of them already missing or wearing out.

Just wanted to mention that I ordered this mSATA card to test it with the 6th, 7th and 5.5th gen iPods.

I plan to test it using this adapter.

Tried the mSATA adapter and none of the iPods like it, on the iPod 6th generation all I got was a red X and on the 5.5th it showed a sad face and then turned off.

Tried it using both a 24gb mSATA card and a 256gb mSATA with the same results.

I have available the adapter and 24gb card I can mail it to anyone that would like wants to try them on his iPod.

Edit -  Tried the 24gb mSATA card with the 5.5th gen iPod and this adapter  the iPod accepted it, connected it to iTunes and restored then after done and working fine I went ahead and did the RockBox installation, the iPod rebooted and got this same error on the screen like other guys are getting with the 256gb card.  So this means that the card size have nothing to do with the error, maybe the mSATA to zif adapter is the problem here?
