A little help please on turntable re-furb amplification

Maybe I got the wrong forum...but turntables don't seem discussed anywhere else.

So I apologize if I intrude.

Anywayz.

I just finished a re-boot of an old Harman Kardon t35 turntable.

Got it on the back of a tubie, it sounds weedy and very low volume.

This is my first time refurbing a table and running it outside of a solid state rig.

So.

I figure the tubie is too low amp to work with the table? Either I put it on the Carver, or should I pre-amp?

Or am I way wrong about my thinking?

Thanks for any suggestions you guys care to offer!

Not sure what a "tubie" is.

You must connect a turntable to a phono pre-amp

Older pre-amps or receivers have a set of RCA's on the back that are for a turntable.

What type of amplification do you have?

Sorry.

I was referring to my tube amp.

I am running an upgraded Yaqin MC100B  with a matched set of Shuguang Treasures that I sometimes roll to a set of Golden Lions instead of the "stock" tubes provided with the rig. This amp powers my Polk Audio Monitor 7s.

My alternative is a Carver TFM35 magnetic field amp that I'm using for my Celestion sl6si's.

Since your reply, I have been reading up on phono pre-amps and understand what I need and why.

Any suggestions?

Bear in mind that I'm trying to finish paying off med school before I turn 95.... LOL!

Hi DogMeat:

According to this schematic  your integrated tube amp does not have a phono stage -- build (or buy) one of these -- Hagtech Bugle -- for MM cartridges, along with one of these -- Hagtech Piccolo -- (if you want to use low output moving coils.)  The HK T35 has a tonearm on the "light" side with an effective mass of 8 grams --a higher compliant MM would be a good bet -- try a Nagaoka JT-555
