Post WW II music VS the American society

Thread Starter
Just as the title says...
OK, it may not say to much therefore a short introduction is needed - writing my BA on the effects of music on the post war American society.
Looking for any kind of materials, hints, interesting anecdotes or simply a different point of view.
The safest way of presenting this topic would be to revolve the whole story around The Beatles (pre, contemporart and post Beatles time), right ?
(Do I even write in the appropriate subforum ?)

I think the "VS" in the title says it all.  American Pop Music has largely been a negative influence on American society, at least since the music of the mid-sixties was replaced by the New Rock.  It has been mostly downhill ever since, except for the growing, but still limited popularity of Celtic music, and that is not entirely American.  Classical, sadly, continues to be marginalized.

On another forum I frequent, I note the erudite discussions and debates, and then sometimes I go to the "Music" subforum.  There, I see trash, just musical trash, and I sense a disconnect.  Educated, articulate people should not be listening to this dreck.
