I agree. The iPad 2 has one of the best DAPs I've ever heard.

I'm at work, so right now just my iPad 2 direct. I haven't even tried to plug them into the my 120gb iPod Classic yet.

Eric,  We tied, got mine this morning also.  Very, very good!  Initial impressions using my main rig, wav's, computer > Pure Silver USB > Vlink > Pure Silver Coax > Audio-GD NFB 2 > Mingda Amp (fresh Mullard CV2975 Power Tubes and Mullard CV4035 Amplifier Tubes) > GR07, 7550, RE272, FXT90.  These are very resolving gears, very different from listening on a portable rig.

How do they do it, at this price!  Anyway, got the 7550 yesterday and FXT90 today, a lot to digest.  I have listened to all of my test tracks already.  These sounded soooo gooood, I didn't skip on any of the 25 tracks, listened to the whole songs.  Man I could listen to these and be happy, but I have all day everday to enjoy all 4.  I like all four, but it will be awhile to iron out what I like about each.

I can say the FXT90 are the most musical, most fun to listen to, of the 4 (but I like them all for different reasons, different music, different mood).  Plenty of bass for me, I could do with a little less.  They can be slightly boomy, as compared to the other three.  Compared to the bass through my speaker system, these have more sub bass quantity.  I would say they have more bass than the other three, so someone that likes bass should not have a problem.  I like the bass, it fits with the rest of the sound.  Can't say more til they are broke in on that.

They have PRAT, toe tappin sound!  Very good soundstage/width,  compared to the other three, their equal.

Where they differ from the other three is in their sparkly treble.  I have not heard earphones that have very good bass and very good treble!  I actually hope that burn in tames the highs just a little bit.  They sound very open, not congested at all.

These are initial impressions only, so things could change.  Plus, I have been listening to speakers for 30 years, various speakers, various systems.  Flew headlong in head-fi, three months ago, so I am new at trying to describe what I hear.  I did sell my HD650 a week after I purchased the GR07 some weeks ago, because the sound of the earphones entering my head was way better than what I was getting from the HD650.  Keep in mind, this is on my home gears.

I never knew music could sound this good................  I would have to spend a lot to get this sound from speakers, it would take a lot of money to satisfy that.

I think it is just wonderful where technology is going, and the fact that quality just keeps going up as competition goes up and price goes down.

Looking forward to more impressions of these and other new ear phones out there.  Keep the reviews coming, all!

You are going to love these!

Just wanted to add, I went straght to the Jays tips, large, wearing them over the ears, listening right out of the box!

Is the Fiio E7 a good DAC for these out of a computer? I found it has an output impedance of .4, which should work very nicely with these, but some info on real world use would be nice before I get one.

Just listening to Getz/Gilberto, "The Girl From Ipanema", stereo SACD.  The reed instraments on this album have never sounded this good.  I need a good definition of "texture", because I think that is what I hear!

This SACD has been successfully transported into my head.  Like in, "beam me up Scotty"!

Exciting times with the FXT90....

Nice @ cute.. I pretty much agree with you assessment and initial impressions. More is to come too. Oh yes, I also have to say at this point that the neither the GR07, 7550, FXT90 or W4 has made me want to sell off the others. They compliment each other in some form or fashion. But I was pushed really hard and in some fantasy I had to sell one to safe my life, then the decision would be easy. The W4 would be saying bye bye. Now I hope no one reads this the wrong way and think the W4 is falling out of favor with me. It's not.

Agree again... Horns are the clear winner here above the rest I've heard. As a matter of fact, I would say that the FXT90 is to horn instruments what the GR07 is to drum instruments to my ears. Different sound signature, but the W4 would be a close second for horns.

You guys are making this terribly difficult for me haha! Good to know that eric got his within 2 weeks time from the same seller (buyfromjapan). That's one too many positive reviews for me to not have taken the plunge, and now I'm ever so glad that I did.

Glad you're enjoying them Eric, cute, etc..

I think my FXT90s have settled in terms of the sound.  They've got a lovely thickness through the (slightly forward) mids and a crisp (but non-fatiguing) treble.. spread a buttery layer of smoothness across the top of it all and you've got a very cohesive sounding phone.  The treble is a far cry from the harshness I heard out of the box.  It's now much more refined, smooth, and controlled.  I really like how the treble has graded out.  It's still got that excellent snap & special timbre.. but it sounds less metallic, more rounded, and multidimensional then out-of-the-box.

The treble presentation, to me, sounds much more in line with what JVC was going for in terms of the overall smooth, slightly warm tuning of the phone, imo.  The bass too has improved immensely from what I heard out of the box.  It's tighter, more controlled, and quicker.  As a whole, the phone sounds more balanced between the bass-mids-treble.. while sounding more spacious and cleaner.  As has been mentioned many times before, I highly recommend letting these burn in for at least twenty or thirty hours before making a fair judgement.

These phones have such character!  I recently got a pair of RE262 (which I'm also enjoying immensely).. and the JVC have that same kind of sophisticated (albeit different..not quite as detailed & textured) coloration.

A lot of people have been asking how they compare to the GR07.. like Eric, I see the JVC as an excellent complimentary phone to the GR07.  The GR07 has a more delicate, textured sound.  It's more about not trying to do "anything wrong" while the JVC is going for a (relatively) more colored, aggressive sound.  At the same time, the JVC is plenty detailed & textured.. it's that those qualities aren't quite as prominent & focused on as they are on the GR07.  The JVC eschews complete neutrality in favor of an engaging, fun, but natural sound.  In no way do I see myself ridding one phone for the other.  They both play well with a very wide variety of genres and do so in an impressive fashion.

One of my favorite tracks to listen to with the FXT90 is Sade's "Cherish the Day" (remastered version).. particularly after the JVC's have burned in.  It's a naturally spacious, immersive, and hypnotic song.. but the JVC just take it to another level.  The clean punch of the bass drum is addicting to listen to (along with the rest of the song)... and Sade's vocals sound heavenly (as usual).

How are you guys burning your headphones? And at which volume?

Just play a variety of music through them.. when I wasn't listening to them, I'd let them play (in a sock drawer) at slightly above normal listening volume.
