I'd like to revive this thread with my entry the RS2i. So far Im more impressed with the build quality upgrades than SQ vs my 225i. Plus the cable has a kink it which is not making me feel very good. P.S. sorry if pics are ginormous

I wouldn't worry too much about the kink so long as you twisted the headphone in the direction that would remove it so it doesn't continue to stay that way. Unfortunately many Grados seem to come that way right out of the box.

Just picked up my new (to me) RS1 and I'm super excited to give these a go as my new "flagship" hp. I bought 'em off Craigslist for what I think is a good price considering what they go for new. They came with a fancy foam and felt-lined wooden box too that will be nice to store them in. I was in a high-end audio store today that sells Grados and I noticed the new RS1i doesn't come with this box. When did they stop including it?

Pictures and S/N to come later.

You have bought a pair of vintage RS1. They are much more valuable than the new RS1i. Congrats!

Here is the box...I think the latch points to Vintage S or Vintage A.

And here are 'phones as presented in the box. It smells old when you open it up and as you can see, the felt is coming unglued and is thus curling up around the edges. The pads seem to be adhered pretty tight to the wooden cups and I'm afraid I'll permanently damage them if I force them off the look for a serial number. Would RS1s of this vintage even have a serial #?

RS1i - #10175

Think that is the biggest number in this topic :D On a side note, I wonder if that is how much RS1's they sold. Looks like business is quite good ^^.

This does does super well for my classical collection, korean pop and all of my jazz.

I don't believe that they would have one. Are the pads in good condition and do they seem original?
I haven't heard of anyone saying they have damaged their RS phones taking the pads off (when they seem stuck) but then again I wouldn't recommend it just in case, because there is no reason to.

The pads look like the "L-cushion" pads seen on the Grado website. They are in excellent condition so maybe these have been updated from the original pads that came on them. I can take and post a picture from the driver side if that will help clarify things. Just let me know.
