Hey, I bought MDR V6's headphones from Amazon but I hear this weird distortion on some songs.

A good example is on the Arctic Monkeys song "The View from the Afternoon" at the very beggining along with the guitar there's distortion on the left side.

I've tried taking off the pad and blowing on the driver to see if there was any dirt or hair, but it's still the same.

I need help, these are brand new.

My Fischer FA-003's distort in the beginning of that song as well.  It's my understanding that this AM album is poorly mastered.  There's an article on the Loudness War another member referenced and this album is listed at the top of the loudness war album list:

Breaks my heart, the album is so good.

EDIT:  It's worth noting that my recording is 256kbps, but I don't think recording oversights like this would disappear with a loss-less file

I agree with the above poster, unless you hear this a lot or only at certain high volumes, you're likely hearing analog or digital mastering problems.  If the distortion is independent of volume (e.g. you hear it with high or low volume) and only on certain tracks, it's almost certainly in the source, not the phone.

I find that with my phones there are tracks i listened to for years that had some distortion or clipping that I simply had never heard through speakers (even good ones).

The perils of resolution.

Really?

Then AM are terrible at mastering songs, I also hear it on She's Thunderstorms and DSDCIMYC.
Also in Adele's Rolling in the Deep, and some Arcade Fire songs ( all lossless)

Dude, did you try checking this out at multiple volume levels or not?  It's easy to troubleshoot if you pay any attention to what I wrote.

Sorry, I completely missed your post.

I tested this on my iPod Touch, 'cause it's easier to (somewhat) accurately estimate volume levels.

I can only listen the distortion until the I lower the volume to 6 bars. This can only mean it's not a hadware problem.

But now I'm pissed because I love this song and all the others that have audible distortion, and I can't foccus on anything BUT the problem every time I listen o them

The only other option is to try a CD and compare to what I assume are iTunes or MP3 files.  It is possible, though not too likely, that it was a compression problem.  I encode all my CDs in lossless for max sound quality and use Pure Music software for playback.  PM actually displays output levels, and it's really surprising just how many masters clip.  In fact it shocked me, I thought there was a problem with the software, but in fact I can hear it in the music even through iTunes.  You'd think a studio would know how to avoid clipping, but apparently not.

That said, even some huge bands have problems with masters, digital or analog.  On some older Fleetwood Mac analog recordings (their big-budget work) you can clearly hear occasional clipped mics.  Once you hear it it does kind of stick in the brain...

Every now and then I would hear some light crackling on my v6, both left and right. This normally occurs when the music volume is turned up a bit and I hear it in the higher-mid range. I am on my second v6 legit pair so this leads me to believe this is normal, or at least until it is burned in more.

Thanks, I'm a bit more calm
