TEAC UD-H01 USB DAC

I would be curious to hear this in person.  However, the only dealer that has it in my area (that I know of) knows I ended up purchasing a more expensive DAC directly from the manufacturer, so the only way I'd get to listen to it would be to listen to it at their store.

I just got this on an impulse buy on clearance (open box). At $160 I could not resist.

Sounds amazing via USB on Windows 8.1 with latest drivers. I don't have alot of higher end DACs to compare it to but I have had alot of aftermarket sound cards and decent portable Amp/DACs like the TEAC HA-P50. It's a huge step up from that, which was my previous daily DAC/Amp. Very neutral, bass is very well controlled.

The headphone amp is a good pair with all my headphones from 20-300ohm. The HD 600 needs no more than 11 o'clock on the dial. I thought my HD 600 was already great, now it sounds simply divine. Very pleased indeed.

Did not try Windows 10 yet

Aww I like the black better . Yeah not sure why would expect a product to work with a Windows version that isn't even released yet.

Hi everyone...

Although I've been reading this forum and site long ago, just became a member right now!!

This thread is particularly interesting to me, because i have purchase a TEAC UD-H01. It's a used piece, but it really looks nice and almost "new". I'm a little bit concern about the usb connecting issues reported! This will be my main connection, bypassing my computer sound to the amplifier.

From last post, it seems that on WIndows OS drivers have been "recently" updated and USB issues tend to disappear.
But what about Linux OS, like Ubuntu or Xubuntu or even Lubuntu?

Can anyone share with me their recently experience with this DAC and linux OS?

Thank you al,
Francisco

Picked it up 3 days for 149.95 GBP from richer sound. In comparison to my DAC Magic Plus, these do not sound bright but have a smaller soundstage. To me, they have a softer and relaxed sound but have to wait for them to burn-in. For the price that i paid, it is a bargain but too bad the USB input doesn't work on Linux.

Did you ever connect the DAC to any linux dist?
I'm thinking purchase one and that is my main concerne!

I really would like to confirme (or not) this issue...

I haven't tried it on Linux but many have with no issues. Only the Windows driver had problems.

I had no problem with installing the drivers on Windows, and updated them no and than. Of course, with Apple it is only plug and play, but it is great DAC apart from that, I am now in the running for a cd player from the same serie

I have not tested Linux personally. But everything I read says it works without drivers (plug and play). The few I read who had issues were with older versions (Ubuntu 12.10) and ended up fixing it by tweaking ALSA/PulseAudio settings. Most people only had good things to say and I expect with the newer versions it's only gotten better. Linux was actually the first OS to support USB Audio.
