Where To Download Lossless Music

Thread Starter

OK the name of the thread says it all. The idea is I'm going to create a list of sites with link to where music in lossless format (AIFF M4A, WAV etc) can be purchased. Every time someone posts a good site I'll update the list accordingly as well as check periodically for any broken links. With any luck once we get a decent list of sites listed maybe I'll contact one of the mods and ask for the thread to be stickied or maybe even have the master list turned into a wiki. Please note what I'm asking for are download sites that offer true lossless files and are not file sharing or torrent hosting sites. If I see any such sites listed in the thread I will first contact the poster and ask him/her to edit out the offending site and if it isn't removed I will then contact a site mod and ask the offending post be deleted.

In any case the list is in post #2 I'll kick it off with a couple of links I'm sure most members on here know about.

It would probably be helpful to those living outside the US to state if downloads are available in other counties. I just checked Rhino and HDtracks and they don't sell outside the US. Didn't bother checking the others.

I live in Canada if you set up a paypal account and pay with that you can download from hdtracks. As for Rhino some media is available only in disk some media is downloadable and both media types are a mixture of available worldwide or just USA. So some stuff is available to download worldwide but not all

The websites of DG, Hyperion and other classical music recording companies like Channel Classics provide lossless downloads on their websites.

How about the concert tapers' websites?

http://www.archive.org/details/etree

http://tapers.org/

http://bt.etree.org/

The three above only host recordings by artists who explicitly state that their live concerts can be recorded and traded freely.  There are some truly great musical moments captured by concert tapers, and they're nearly always shared in flac format.  I'm sure there are other sites out there as well, but those three could certainly keep one busy for the rest of your listening life.

Highly recommend downloading Girl Talk's latest 2 albums:

- Set It Off:  http://illegal-art.net/shop/#release117

- All Day:  http://illegal-art.net/allday/

... which are free to download losslessly.  There are several other artists releasing through this site, but I haven't checked them out yet.  I didn't like Girl Talk's previous stuff, but his best (and most recent) stuff is available for free on the site, legitimately.  Feel free to donate if you like.
