Recently ive seen some crazy prices for audio equipment, including a $500 volume control knob courtesy of another HeadFier.

I just sit back and wonder how insane some prices are getting. Come on, show us some astronomically priced audio equipment in this thread !

Hmm... .5% improvement in sound, or...

enough funding to find the cure for cancer?

Methinks the choice is simple

What is your idea of astronomically priced? $40K amplifiers are fairly common, as are $30K CD players. $75K turntables are out there, as are $100K speaker systems. In fact I've seen pictures of a $1 million speaker system. I have also seen a guy that had something like 10 $40K amplifiers gathering dust because he found something he liked better. So, what is your criteria?

Personally, anyone that is willing to outbid me by $1 or more for something is a spendthrift.

But that is probably just me.

I use these under my amplifiers as well as front end gear. Rock solid and vibration free. An absolute must in any system.

oh dear thats just ridiculous.. very few materials, especially wood are "vibration free"... they all transmit waves. put your ear to one side of it and knock on the other.. can you hear that? yes? case closed

I'd say more than a couple grand for an amp is overpriced; $2k for mains is my cap too, and ~$200-250 for headphones, say $1k for a laptop, $12 for a CD, $30 for whisky (Bookers is nice but not $50 nice) $600 for a guitar or bass (better be made from wood christ himself carved, iykwim). And I think cars that cost more than 12k are a rip-off (and a terrible waste of resources if you buy new).

Yes I'd outbid by $1, I'd outbid by a penny if ebay would let me.

Am I a spendthrift? Maybe. But I still have green in my wallet

Many people that get deep into hobbies have more than a dash of the OCD, and some of the "must have the best" complex.

Oh well, maybe I should stop chuckling from the sidelines and start cashing in on it...

Haha the guys probably has more cash than the rest of us if he spends $2000 on wooden boards. One thing for sure though: Hes lost the plot. Someone should make him stand back and say " Oh... my gosh... what have I done ?"
