Comparison -- Russia-China Showdown: DBA-02 vs. GR07

Excellent, detailed review, well done. One thing I wanted to add was for those who might want to get both.. they can be quite complimentary so having both in your collection won't make you feel like you have redundant phones.

I don't think the GR07s are OEMs. To note, they easily the highest build of any Chinese in-ear I've encountered and are actually hand made.

VSonic is in fact a company that makes OEMs for others.  Not sure what other companies they've sourced for though.

Anyway, very nice review.  I may have to pick up a DBA-02 some day...or maybe a B2, depends on how they compare.

Hmm, I'll pay more attention to that... and also try to get my hands on a FX500 to try out.

Well timbre is the overall tonality, it's frequency response is overall great though the weakest link is the treble. The timbre is off in that it tends to give a tonality that doesn't coincide well with the instruments that are played and displays some resonants. To me, for example, the GR07 make the acoustic piano sound more like a keyboard than a natural piano (though it still does it better than the DBA02). It's not bad per say actually just slightly below average ime and also relative to what I use to compare it to.

Yep, agree... the DBA and GR07 make for two very complimentary phones.

Thanks For the Review. I wanted to see which is better before making my decision. I guess ill go with the DBA and get them custom shelled in the near future.

Exactly and I don't think they will share the build of this model with another company, though I could be wrong.

My guess is that they'll license out a similar looking form factor that contains their articulating nozzles but can house a number of generic 7-9 mm drivers -- I really feel they can attract a lot of manufacturers to go with the rotating nozzle design; the only other IEM I know currently on the market with a similar rotating design is the Philips SHE9900, and basically no one has that IEM.

All conjecture though.

VSONIC holds the patent on the articulated nozzle design in China but they are not the only one with the idea. Another U.S. company, which no longer manufacture IEM, actually beats them on announcement by a few months of the same year with another IEM model. I do believe they actually developed the same idea independently. Well, just some fun fact.

Cool! haha... I was going to say how ClieOS probably has some cool insider-only information about this stuff... and low and behold! You're awesome, man!

Any chance it's this one? (More photos here in this sale thread and here).

I did have that one on loan for a while. I remember Epic X having a larger angle of rotation / adjustment, but build quality wise, GR07 is much better.
