Grado Newbie- Please Help?

After putting it off, I finally want to try some Grados. First and most importantly, which pads are the most comfortable and which sound the best? Also would you prefer the SR-80is or MS1is?

Is there a specific reason you are dead set on buying a Grado?  I think for the price you can do better in other sets but thats just my opinion.  However, the only earpads I've ever used on a grado that were comfortable actually came from sennheiser.  The 414 yellows are more comfortable than the stock grado pads, and I even used the sennheiser HD 485 full size pads on my 325i, which sounded amazing and was insanely comfortable.

If i had a budget of around $80, one of the only sets I would buy new would be the Fostex T50rp

even though its closed, it sounds better than the sr80 and ms1 IN MY OPINION.

It all depends on the ears. I like the grados because I can modify them to any sound I wish with some very simple mods. As far as the most comfortable pads, again it's all about the ears or the shape of the ears. If you have small ears like me then the grado bowls are actually quite comfortable cause they go completely around, at least they go fully around my ears. You could always try the stock comfies that come with the SR60i and 80i, for most they are the most comfortable.

I find the bowls to be much more comfortable than the comfies. This may be due to my long hair, however.

I sometimes reverse the bowls on my Sr225is. It increases the comfort dramatically and I hardly feel them after long listening sessions.
