4 screws (or 8 screws at worst, if you're using the double screw banana). You could DIY an adapter yourself - buy 4 banana posts then solder bare wire to them - put that in a fancy box if you want

Generally, modern gear likes using a cheap chip-amp solution - and I mean really cheap - sometimes worse than a meager CMoy. They're built to power iBuds, not your fullsize cans =p. Vintage stuff however, the headphone out is tapped directly from the speaker output - think of it as a built in HE-adapter.

I am sure that I read on this forum that someone checked this and a lot of modern amps (decent quality stereo ones) actually still uses the main amp for the headphone jack as opposed to a cheap chip amp?

I'm sure there are still companies that tap the binding post. I think Denon and Marantz comes to mind; Nad tapped some of the model, but with really high impedance (200+). However, if you're using orthos, go for the binding posts. If you're using dynamics, chances are the headphone output won't be as clean as a dedicated headamp anyway.

Also zoom, you can just make another pigtail adapter from 4 pin XLR -> 4 barewires - costs 20 bucks tops =p. Heatshrink/paracord that into something fancy and you might even sell it with profits when you're done experimenting

Thanks, might consider getting another adapter XLR. I can terminate it to barewire. Also, pins instead should work as well with the old receivers right?

Ordered the Ebay headband replacement and received today, thanks for the tip regarding the buttons. Works much better for comfort. So much softer.

Enjoy your sessions

no regret of blind purchase!!

!

That awesome moment when you realise your gear matches aesthetically.

My HE-500 was up beside my Yamaha speakers for a week before I noticed they had matching grills

Yamaha NS-C5B - they're slightly smallish 2-way bookshelf style studio monitors from the early 80's.
As for the sound, they're not spectacular but as (wall-mounted) laptop speakers they're a treat, easily better than most of the plastic rubbish advertised as computer speakers up to $70-100.

+1 for HE500 and HD600. HE500 is a blind purchase for me, though I did audition HD600 vs HD650 vs some others before deciding to get HD600.

Hey guys I got my He-500s in the mail today and it came with silver cable, 2 pads and pouch inside the large leather box. I was watching videos of a review and the reviewers came in a travel case instead of a leather box. Which is the newer version? Did I get old stock? Thanks

I think they went back to the hard case few months ago (for whatever reason).
The travel case was very nice...

Thanks for the quick responses. Any advice on bending the headband, at the lowest setting they are still hangin too low. I tried just using my thumbs to apply pressure but it didnt deform much, a little hesitant to keep pushing on it haha
