ok, just got the uDAC2. and yeah, this thing is beautiful. i got the red one. one of my co-workers saw it and said "i don't know what the hell that is, but it is sexy."

the sound? well, damn, it sounds really really good. of course, i'm going to have to do some A/B-ing when I get home, but right now, I am loving it. I don't know how much of the apparent sound improvement comes from the amp and how much comes from the DAC...but the sound is pumping, vibrant, richly textured, and with a smooth warmth that is really pleasing my ears.

darn. now you tell me.  :frowning2:

As long as you are happy with it, it doesn't matter what other people think.  I have read too many mix reviews on the uDAC 2 for me to buy it unheard but if I try something and like it then I'll get it.  Is your own taste that only matters afterall.

ok, so i just did a bunch of A/B comparisons of the uDAC2 versus the Macbooks line out. for this session i was using my Sennheiser HD 555s. The verdict? I don't really hear a difference in sound quality. i honestly can't say the uDAC2 is doing a better job than the Macbook.

tomorrow i will do more A/Bing with my Grado SR80s and my Shure SRH440s. if i continue to not hear a difference i will try sending this pretty object back. there must be a better way to use the $110.

i did more A/B-ing, with the Grados and the Shures. Can't really notice a difference. I'm guessing the Macbooks DAC is sufficient and my low-impedance phones don't need an amp.
