Ken Ishiwata of Marantz talking amplifier design, current, dynamics & their importance to music
Apr 19, 2011 at 5:02 PM Post #16 of 24
After watching many people in the same business as Ken, I can see how his claim is justified. Most companies talk about the consumer and price and all that, not 1 I have watched exhibits the passion of this man.

Prog Rock I usually agree with your assessment of things, however I think this time your letting cynicism get the best of you, watching many of the whathifi interviews. You can see lots of companies that are clearly talking in their interviews as a market ting pitch, so why is it not fair for him to see that him and his company is passionate about music when they clearly are?

Is one not allowed to express their passion?

Kees, I have quoted exactly what Ken Ishiwata said and I am perfectly entitled to disagree with him and refer to what he said as rubbish.

TakashiMiike, the reason why I say what he claims is not true is I have spoken to Antony Michaelson founder of Musical Fidelity, a former professional musician who would certainly take issue with the claim that only Marantz are crazy about the music. I have also read pieces either on forums or the internet from Ivor Teifenbrun (Linn), Ashley owner of AVI and a chap Jim from Acoustic Energy speakers and I would say they would all laugh at the suggestion Marantz love their music more than others.

Of course he is entitled to express such passion, as are others and I have no doubt that he and employees at Marantz are crazy about the music, but so are a whole host of other hifi makers.

Yes, but a whole lot more are not.
I don't understand why you insist on painting him black. It's uncalled for and It doesn't do any good.

You are exaggerating my criticism of what he said and have turned rubbish and not true into lair and painted black, the latter coming over (I am sure as unintended borderline racist.(

I disagree with some of the comments he has made, that is all and it is allowed and I can justify what I have said with evidence to back me up.

Since this is Sound Science and here we bring evidence to the party, I wonder how he would react to the various failed ABX tests of amps? It would very much appear that so long as an amp has sufficient current/power and is not attached to incredibly long speaker wires and is running speakers within a reasonable impedence/sensitivity range, no one can reliably tell them apart.

Now that would be an interesting You Tube clip, Ken Ishiwata taking a ABX test to prove his claims are audible.

Why don't you just ask him? If you ask politely (and not quite in the tone you use right now) he might answer,

One e-mail sent to Marantz europe. Their web site has another interview with him.

Ok his quote is "I believe, there are so many other companies, they do similar things, but they are not as crazy as we are on music."

So first off, he qualified his statement with "I believe" he is not stating an objective fact. It simply a statement of passion, like how someone with a passion for something would say "I love doing X more than anyone." It is not meant to be taken as an objective fact, obviously there are people that love music, and some of those people belong to other companies, and have greater or less passion then this man, but it is a simple colloquialism.

If you want to judge this man (and I do as I am a skeptic when regards to amps/cables/etc.) Judge it on his products, not by slandering his character, there is no evidence that this is a dishonest man, and it is clear, that he is passionate about what he does.

I hope you understand what I am trying to say.

Both you and Kees are grossly exaggerating what I have actually said. Claiming I was 'slandering his character' is nonsense. Get a grip, end of thread for me.

PS - Marantz e-mailed back and they do not do blind testing.
