Really? Mine had some really forward mids. Most likely a strange pair that's much different than yours.
 
Most natural sounding AKG headphone i've heard was the K501. Don't remember what version I had. Of course this is ignoring it's abnormally massive soundstage.
 
To my ears the K501 sounds even more natural than even the Sextett, K601 and Q701.
 
I'd pick the K601 over the Q701 though when it comes to what sounds more natural.

I like a good midrange and the K400 has just the right balance between warm and detailed for me. Forward yes but also very smooth.
 
These days my casual headphone is the K500 with K601 ear pads. The ear pads make a difference for me.

I'd probably add in the Philips Fidelio X2 and the Nighthawk.
