Impedance & NG98 MKiI

Hi, i'm an happy owner of a pair of Sennheiser HD 558 foam modded, with 60 Ohm of impedance. I've recently bought from China the amp NG98 MKII, that for me sounds very well, but... i can reach max 1/5 of the volume, before breaking everything. It seems to have a lot of power, much more than what my HP can handle... Having a pair of cans with 300+ Ohm maybe would let me turn more the volume but, and this is my question, would i obtain a (real) better sound? Or will it be the same i've got now, with the volume knob at 1/5 (instead of, p.e., 1/2)? Thanks

Not familiar with the phones or amp, but the position of the volume knob has little bearing on sound quality.  What it really means is the amp has a lot of gain for your particular cans, which is not necessarily the same as too much power.  Certainly if you had more usable range on the volume knob, it would be easier to make minute changes in level, but that's about it.  Don't worry about it, enjoy the music.
