Why oh why do I have to stumble upon a really cheap apogee minidac with usb option, only to find out that I will probably have to use a ****ty 1/8 line out, similar to what you have on a audigy 2

The thing is, it is suppose to stomp all over the superdac I have, yet you got to have xlr input to benefit.
Oh, and to make things more annoying, it has a built in headphone amp as well, similar to the grace, but I cannot test it without buying, aaaargh.

final insult is that USB connection to the pc, which basically makes buying RME or other card not needed.

If only they had at least made a proper consumer level connector on this thing, grrrrrrr!!! this is agonising to watch, bacause I can get it at half the price the thing sells here in europe.

Ofcourse I could dremel and solder a little but I have no garantee that the circuit is good enough on the 1/8

There no room for such connections. Besides it's a pro piece of equipment not consumer so they should use balanced outs.

Yes I know, and also there are ofcourse convertors for the balanced outs to rca.... but since using these things often makes the signal quality worse it seems so pointless to me to even consider taking the risk, especially because I already have a fairly decent dac.

very tempting piece of equipment though, very.

So how much can you get this thing for? and um... is it available for other people to buy at this price? Maybe somebody could go for it and review it.

wow, looks nifty. if you're going to spend $900 on a dac.. why not spend the extra $50 and buy a set of those xlr->rca converter plugs from cardas?

i forget the site that had them.. diycables.com or something?

or of course you could get a balanced gilmore amp (stax or dynamic) and really make your system move.
