Apologies, I get wound up in all this stuff too often and have too little sleep - end up cynical.

x2 on the classical.

I think finding great music is like trying to get something out of a glass of water... Try and grasp it too fast and it'll just move further away from you gently ease into what you want and you'll be satisfied, with a clear glass of water to boot!

You know you're an audiophile when you note every piece of hardware down to coil materials, internal wiring, driver type housing, casing etc... Of every headphone you've enjoyed and those you don't, compare, realise there isn't a great deal of correlation... but continue just incase you have a breakthrough.

You know you're an audiophile when you have a dream about wearing IEM to sleep and waking up to find out u've broken the player (physically) and u just sit there, stunned and feel that it is dooms day. Only to wake up for real, realized, it was a horrible nightmare, and start to think about having a secondary portable set up, just in case, if it really becomes reality one day.

On the serious note, this really happened to me this morning, and i tell ya, it aint a good feeling. :p

when you start designing an album, based not only around the music, but how you will record it, mix it, which formats will best reproduce it, and how to solve the issues with modern recordings in doing so (loudness wars etc)
I Have a long list of things required to make a good sounding album, and thats at the top of the list. proper use of the Dbrange of Cd's.

If it's audio related, then I'm happy.

On a side note, I spent an hour in maths explaining to a few friends about all I know about audio, from playing music, and the physics behind waves, through to room acoustics. To be fair, I only got a little way in before running out of time.
it took a while explaining why speaker position and room acoustics DO have an effect on sound, and required many diagrams, and simple calculations (ala high school physics) to make them realize....

Yesterday I tried explaining to someone what balanced is and what its advantages and disadvantages are.
Halfway in I realized he didn't understand a word of what I was saying because I used words such as 'polarity', 'shield', 'voltage swing', 'gain', 'constructive interference' and 'signal ground'.

At least he complimented me by saying that my vocabulary of audio is way ahead of him. I actually felt proud :D
