If you could only have 3 letters of the Alphabet to choose musical artists from, what would they be?

You can cheat a bit.  Elvis Presley could be under "P" or "E".  Pretend there has become an International ration on music.  Give Examples or reasons for your choices.

"K"-Kiss is a must, Kansas
"B"-Bethoven and Boston are my absolute musts
"M"-Metallica, Mozart, Moody Blues, Milli Vanilli (ok, not really those lip syncers, but seeing if you read this)

Letters "s" and "t" would be my alternates but I guess that is cheating.

"V" for Varttina and Vasen (listening to them now)

"M" for the 3 Mustaphas 3 - the best band in the world, IMHO, and let's not forget Marta Sebestyen, and I almost forgot Maria Kalaniemi and her band (cheating a little here) Aldargaz

"S" for Sorten Muld and the late, great Stan Rogers

Yeah, I listen to bands few others have ever heard of...

I am really going to take a lot of liberty here:

Let me cheat a little (a lot) and exploit the loophole first,

T: The Black Keys, The Roots, The Killers, The Mars Volta, The Crystal Method, The Mermen, Talib Kweli, Tool

ok...now I can play the game how it was meant to be,

R: Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rush, Rage Against the Machine, Ratatat, Rodrigo y Gabriela, RJD2

My last letter I am really having a hard time with,

J: Jay-Z, J. Cole, Jason Mraz, Junior Kimbrough, John Legend, Joe Satriani

Wow, that was pretty hard. I had to leave out some great bands that I listen to a lot because they were usually the only shining star in their respective alphabets

S - Soundgarden; Screaming Trees; Satriani, Joe; Slayer; Sonic Youth; Soul Asylum; Sigur Rós; Sebadoh; Skyclad; Soulsavers; Suicidal Tendencies; Sugar; Swervedriver...
M - Monster Magnet; Morphine; Mascis, J.; Megadeth; Meat Puppets; Mew; Manic Street Preachers; Mega City Four; Minutemen; Mondo Generator; Mother Love Bone; Mudhoney...
P - PAW; Prince; Pearl Jam; Pink Floyd; Pedro the Lion; Professor Longhair; Pixies; Porcupine Tree...

With an honourable mention going to bands starting with "Quee"
- Queen
- Queensryche
- Queens of the Stone Age

Hmm... My favorite bands don't seem to double up much on letters, but I'll give it a go.

B: Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Blind Guardian
D: Dio, Demons & Wizards
H: Helloween, Heaven & Hell (only one album, but still a great band)

Honorable mention:

J: Judas Priest, Journey
Q: Queen, Queensryche

[I had to post then edit because the forum software wouldn't let me put different lines in :frowning2: ]

B would be the absolute biggest loss. I would lose all my Bob Dylan, and he's my favorite musician ever.
J would be a big loss too, since I'd lose Jethro Tull, Joan Baez, Judas Priest, and Joe Satriani.
M would cut out Metallica.

Really interesting question...
1) A: A.C. Newman, Andrew Bird, Arcade Fire, The Apples in Stereo
2) M: Joni Mitchell, The Mountain Goats, Modest Mouse
3) S: The Strokes, Sufjan Stevens, She & Him, Silver Jews

My three most listened to artists are all represented (Andrew Bird, The Mountain Goats, and Sufjan Stevens)  S has the most bands that I enjoy a lot but are not favorites, which ended up beating out B which had Bon Iver and Belle & Sebastian, two big-time favorites, but not much else.

Surely Dylan is a 'D'. If we were doing all the Bob's as 'B' then Dylan, Mould, Sekar, and others, would have shifted my allegiances.

amazing how much itunes and the lot have changed our perception of alphabetical order.
Bob Dylan is definitely a B if you listen with your mp3 player.

I have a crazy friend who refuses to accept this new paradigm, however.
he uses name inversion on his entire music catalogue (which numbers thousands of albums).
so, all his music reads "Dylan, Bob" for example.

crazy.
i still can't figure out what you're supposed to do with something like "The Oscar Peterson Trio".
is that Peterson, Oscar Trio?

anyways... back on subject.

i would crap if i lost the letter P.
pink floyd, pixies, pj harvey, pantera, pearl jam, porcupine tree...
and a few obscure ones like prefab sprout, pentangle, and poi dog pondering...
and if you follow itunes rules, there's lots of peters (all of 'em but cetera) and pauls (simon, mccartney) in there as well...
