Yep, official cable ordered directly from Sennheiser parts department. It was like $13 for the cable and $11 for the shipping. So around $25 shipped. WAY overpriced, but yea Sennheiser accessories pretty much always are.

Guess that means I'm crazy for spending $350 on my latest cable upgrade

Thanx alot Headstar, it helps to have a 'control' to compare against. Just to check, do you know if maybe my amp is clipping? Would it affect both channels, and not one?
If so, then its definitely to do with the 598 and I will replace it this weekend.

i know it is a little dated but i had an e11 with the kns 8400 and i put them on once and one of the cups was very distorted and clipping. so first i pushed the cables to make sure they were all in and when they were my stomach dropped, thinking my cans died. i took them out of the amp and put them in my ipod and they sounded fine. so, thinking my amp died i put it on a shelf for a month or so looking at another good amp to buy. that's when i found out it was a faulty cable. it was brand new so i never even thought to check it because i was playing around with my amp and when the cable rested in but was not fully in the jack it played fine so long as it didn't move. so it could just be a cable. sorry this is more so for anyone further reading this post.

Hey guys,

I just listened to the HD 598 today at a store and I must say that I liked them :)
I enjoyed the overall nice airy sound with different music styles, bass, very comfortable velour pads (looking for headphones comfortable for long hour listening), the fit, the looks (not bulky), and the fact that it sounds decent without an amp (although amp is recommended) ( I have Sansa Clip + and sometimes I use PA2V2 amp), BUT I don`t like when noise from outside is coming in or music from inside is going out. I know the "leakage" (maybe this is the correct word) is common for open headphones like the HD 598.

Could you please recommend headphones with all the things I liked about it BUT with the added characteristic of much better isolation. This means closed earphones? And then this would mean less airyness? hmmmm.....  Price range about 200 USD.

Thank you :)

Oh, and hopefully the cracking issue will be fixed for good, it was quite sad to read the postings about the crackings. I mean, ordering headphones, liking them, and then suddenly they soon break? I feel for you.

hey, these are waayyyyy out of the price range you mentioned about $550 but the Audio Technica WX1000 are supposed to be great, like the closedback equivalent of the hd598, I HAVE NOT PERSONALLY HEARD  THE WX1000 so take what i say with a grain of salt but i have heard a few high end closedbacks and you really cant get a good open back sound out of a closed can nomatter what price range they just have different attributes but i reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaallllllllyyyyyyy want to get some D7000's they are phenominal!

I am thinking for some weeks now that I want to buy the HD 598. As what i read on here they are superb for a good price. The only thing is that some people say it lacks bass. If you compare it to a triple fi 10 UE (what i use now) will the bass be much worse (less strong)? I don't need cans with a lot of bass, just enough to enjoy also trance, happy hardcore, techno next to my other music. ( I listen to everything from pink floyd , to top 40).

I currently still have a fiio e5 somewhere, but i couldt really here a difference used with a triple fi 10 in ear. will a fiio e7 or e11 be better ? For use with the 598

They don't lack bass, but they just don't have heart pounding bass. But I have not heard the triple -fi so I cannot compare, but the HD598 bass would probably has a more airy surround feel while most iem's bass have a darker solid feel.
