Getting "called-out" for not wearing the Beats

> I personally just don't understand why their is so much hate for them.

This has been answered a million times already. Don't people read the past few pages at least

Answer: People hate beats because they're falsely advertised as professional audiophile grade headphones for the price when they're not. It would be like if Burger King started a massive ad campaign claiming the "whopper with extra cheese (tm)" is a "fine gourmet food served in all the top restaurants" and start charging $50 a piece for them. Don't you see how this would be at least a little bit annoying if you could see through the marketing?

What's worse is: everyone starts believing them, because they had nothing better than beans before then, so naturally trying a whopper is going to taste amazing. But it's more than that, and that's what this thread is about: Imagine a burger king fan comes along and sees you eating something that's not beans and is not burger king! Oh no! He comes and verbally attacks you, claiming that your food (true gourmet) sucks, and that you should try to REAL food if you can ever AFFORD it, that is - the $50 whopper.

Silly analogy aside: This is why there is dislike for Beats in general. It's a combination of blatantly false advertising, overpriced-ness, and a phenomena that for some reason causes a lot of the Beats demographic to be in-your-face idiots (who knows why though).

ps- many studios today do mix with the beats because of how mainstream it is.

Nooooooo. If they did, music would have even more midrange coloration than it does now. Same with less bass (obviously contrary to what goes on today...) and probably treble. Credible studios don't even mix with headphones--they may track with them and use them as a listening device, but never to mix.

Any more information you can provide on this accusation? I know a few people in the recording industry (it's still a field I am considering as a career) and they've had nothing but awful things to say about them...

Obvious troll is obvious? Lets not feed him anymore than we have. If he legitimately believes the Beats aren't complete rubbish after being on Head-fi for six months, I don't even know what to say...

He actually uses M50s...There's a few official 'behind the scenes' videos with him using M50s. I laughed so hard. It was like he was trolling everyone listening to the video through Beats.

They definitely think that. Look at some of the comments on Youtube.  Over and over again, you hear (presumably) kids saying that Beats must be better then Senn's because you don't see celebrities wearing Senns.  Monster has them convinced that rich celebrities and music professionals actually use and prefer Beats to listen to music with in their real lives.  They're evidently totally ignorant of how endorsements work.

This idea that they're better than iBuds is true, but it's no excuse. Someone posted an example of someone who has only eaten beans his whole life before being introduced to a Burger King hamburger. Of course, he's going to think the hamburger is heaven.  But, BK doesn't charge $30 for a hamburger. If they did, and the person eventually found out they'd been taken advantage of, what would they think of BK?  Hopefully, enough teenagers will smarten up and that will be the fate of Monster.  They're already known for being ripoff artists in the field of cables.  Hopefully, they'll also get the reputation they deserve as ripoff headphone marketers.

The kids wasting away their high school years smoking weed and drinking will smarten up? Doubt it.

Did you know everybody on Team USA for basketball has a pair of beats?

That doesn't make it okay, but the same teens that smoke weed and drink also often look up to big names. I know some of the players above have been people I looked up to since I could dribble a basketball. Realistically though, it's going to be the style that gets people. Gotta look cool..

I haven't been called out in a long while... But one of my friends, who is not on Head-fi was (btw, been trying to get him to join, but his response is always "I like my money" and I can't say that I blame him for responding that way).

Story goes as thus:

He was in the library listening to his Grado 225is and this kid with Beats around his neck (not plugged into anything mind you) basically says "Your headphones look like ****, they must sound like **** too. You should invest some money on Beats."

His response was "You have it backwards... These are called "Grado," they have a timeless classic look that won't be outdated in 5 years, they sound amazing, far better than your cheap Chinese mass produced glossy plastic headphones could ever hope to sound, they cost around the same price range as your Beats Solos, oh yeah, and did I mention that they are designed, and manufactured in Brooklyn with a lifetime warranty? Now please go away so I can resume studying. Thank you."

Apparently the guy stood there with a dumbfounded look on his face for a minute and walked away not saying anything further. I'm not sure if my friend blew up his mind or what. But apparently he got a kick out of the guy's face. I really wish I would have been there to see it.

Haha nice one! ^^

I don't think smoking pot or drinking [occasionally] has a huge affect on one's mental capacity. There are plenty of people who do both that I would say are pretty damn smart. Just because stupidity is associated with doing both of those things doesn't mean there aren't intellects that like to partake in those activities once in awhile...

If you want a real-life version of this analogy, replace "Burger King" with "Five Guys".

Those are some overrated burgers, right there.

Most of my music is metal. Metal is rarely mainstream and most mainstream metal REALLY IS TRASH. I still enjoy some mainstream metal bands though. Such as system of a down, 80s thrash, mastodon, nightwish, etc. I personally can't stand pop music. Its a personal preference not because i want to be a hipster. 90% of the mainstream i have heard is trash. The other 10% is passable.

Oh and btw i thought i should say this.

The beatles are decent and only serve one purpose, that is to influence most music which has come out since then. Their music really isn't anything special and is quite poppy.

Regarding nirvana. Did you just say nirvana was good? I am laughing really hard right now. Without nirvana music nowadays might actually be credible. Nirvana is highly overrated. The guy can't sing very well and the music is very simple. I will give nirvana credit for the emotion put into it. But it killed the band.

So I guess we can agree that not all mainstream music is bad, and not all underground music is good, right? Sometimes it just happens to be so.
Now, do you like grunge? Or alternative rock? Because I think your statements about Nirvana and The Beatles are characteristic of someone who doesn't. I mean they were important in their time. Wether they were good or not is up for debate (not on this thread), but they were important. If you like Grunge, even if you dislike Nirvana, you recognize them as very important in that genre

Nirvana made grunge take off flight. Sonic Youth were a major influence, and Alice in Chains helped to keep it important, but we can officially state Nirvana created Grunge. Of course they had their influence, I don't mean to say they created the style out of the ground. A lot of the techniques they used weren't new - Punk had been screaming and ranting for decades before Grunge - but never in such a way. Like I said, they were the first to incorporate lyrics of teenage boredom and apathy into a song, at least that I have heard of. I've enjoyed their music more than I do, although I still think they're decent.

Your evaluation of the Beatles is completely unfair for the same reasons: they pretty much created a sub-genre of Rock. Of course in 2011 we can say they're annoying because literally thousands of bands have copied their style, lyrics and general idea. But when they started, they were immensely important. Both these bands were marking stones in Rock History, not solely because of their quality, but because they innovated a lot. And it's much more difficult to create a new style than to take part in an existent one, because the pre-applied formulas you have available is much smaller.

Also, I don't mean to say I know your likes, but from what I've understood, you listen to Metal and Electronica mostly. Maybe you don't like these genres. I can't listen to pop, it literally makes me feel bad, but that doesn't mean I don't realize Madonna was really important in Pop History.
