This isn't an invitation to a flame-fest or to Grado bash, but seeing how much it would cost me to get my RS1 cable fixed (properly) if it were to break... how reliable are the cables? I don't remember seeing any problems listed, but if you've had any (or praise for that matter) please respond...

Thanks

The only problem I've had with a Grado cable is on the plug end of my RS-1. There were times when I had to kind of bend the cable right behind the molded plug to get it to work. I finally just taped it in the bent position.......it's been working fine ever since. Since I was quoted about $80 to repair, I'll live with the tape.

I used a little tape to minimize the cable sliding up and down in the cup (didn't like the slight noise), but didn't have a problem with the cable proper with SR80 or SR225.

Durability wize, the grado cable is very strong. I carried my grados everywhere, stuffing the cable into my pockets and everything. It didn't even become scratched. The only problem I could see is where the ends of the cable are (jack-terminated part, into the drivers, that Y-shaped thingy). Where the Y- thingy (I don't know the correct term) meets and connects to the cable is where it appears somewhat flimsy. But otherwise, I doubt the cable would break through normal wear. Timewize (total length of time in use) I'm not so sure about . .

I tripped on mine two days ago and ripped the cord right out of the jack on the amp and then i fell over the cord in an attempt to avoid more damge

i just knew they were wrecked and repairs would be in order but the cord was fine

i did pull one of the side pieces right off and bent something (they just don't seat correctly now) but the cord survived with no damage

dunno how but it did

With my SR225s (brand new), where the cable enters the ear cup/driver casing there is an audible 'click' noise heard even when music is playing when I turn my head. It is more pronounced with the left connection. It was an easy fix in that I cut a toothpick into thirds and inserted three short ones so that there is no free play where the cable enters into the housing hole. Problem solved. I really don't want to part with them again as this is my second pair. The first had a cosmetic mark on the earpiece and it took almost a month of turnaround time. Too long to be without this great headphone.

Hey fractus2, may you please comment on the grado sr-225's in maybe a few sentence as I really want to purchase them. How would you compare them with other headphones you have?
Thanks

The grado cord as I remember is one of the thickest i've seen on headphones. I've never had a problem with it in terms of breakage or tear, but it was to big for my taste (obviously). I would say its very durable.

on the Y part where the two cable is join into one, its very thin there for some reason and i'm afraid it might break there. but other than that i love grado cable, pretty sturdy and the length is just right.

dont get why some people complains about grado cable being hard, so they prefer other headphones, must be very weak.

No problems with my 325 cable. But the connection between the 325 cable and the Grado extension cable is sometimes slightly sketchy. I think the problem is probably in the female part of the extension.
