RB on Archos 43 works better than on the Archos 70, mainly because the 54 extra pixels give room for the on-screen android buttons.

In short, Archos 43, 2.2 not rooted, works great.

  1. Device name.
  2. Which version of Android you are running?
  3. Is your Device rooted?
  4. Any other information that you think may be helpful.

Rooted TMO Samsung Vibrant w/ wolfson wm8994 headphone amplifier
running
ROM = Bionix-v 1.2.1 (froyo 2.2) Kernal = Eugene's vibrant_4 (voodoo sound ftw)

Sounds great, Interface needs some work. Database is working, but setting it up was challenging.

Grrr. Mediafire can be really annoying at times. A few people already downloaded that build without issues, but now Mediafire decides to give an error. It's impossible re-uploading the same file again, since they somehow check the MD5 sum of the file and always give the same error, even with a new upload. Also, I can't alter the file even a single byte, since the APK signing wouldn't work anymore, and the app wouldn't install on Android. Here's an alternative for the 240x400 build: http://temp.elektrokrishna.com/index.php?dir=&file=rockbox-r29342M-240x400-dfkt.apk

I'll try it on my Droid X, but I have to say that I really like PowerAmp for Android a lot.

I feel the same way, if you don't mind, let me know what you think. I'm trying the 480x854 build now on my Droid X 2.3.40 rooted with Liberty 1.5 Rom. Extremely small text, hard to navigate, database is set.  It does work with my lock screen controls, albeit delayed a bit. Music sounds much better then the stock app, new leaked motorola music app, mixedin, etc. It sounds pretty good, seems maybe more detailed then Poweramp. I still think that I like Poweramp's sound better (especially the bass). This needs an extreme GUI update and some widgets before I will test it out more.

Having compared RB for Android with PowerAMP, I would have to say that it's a toss up for me.  The nice thing about Rockbox is that it pairs well with devices that have tactile buttons.  The problem with the current Builds of RB for Android is that the UI isn't the best with a device without tactile buttons.

I still love the features that Rockbox has to offer, but until a more touchscreen friendly UI is developed I will still be using PowerAMP the majority of the time.

The builds on rockbox.org are rather old. Here's some fresh up-to-date builds (including the Meier crossfeed):

240x400 (Archos 32): http://www.mediafire.com/?2lfcm8bkyfyl550
480x800 (most Android phones): http://www.mediafire.com/?cpirua2dwwe22jp

If someone has some special resolution wishes, I see what I can whip up.

can you tell me more on what elements of the firmware will Rockbox replace in android phones? or does it work as an Application which you can exit?

i have Sony Xperia X10i running Android 2.1 which is rooted and has resolution of 480X800

awaiting your answer

thanks
