Quote:Pop, vocal, electronic, and with a few mods classic rock (although the 701s beat them at this in every way shape and form) they really sound good at every thing imo

I guess I just grew tired of really defined treble like with the DT880s. I really love the relaxed sound of the HD650s. I still like treble and the HD600s are better at that, but the HD650s are just more pleasing to listen to overall.

Quote:Because the HD600 are more natural / neutral. Plus if I want bass my AH-D7000 will spank an HD650

I guess if you don't own cans with great treble/clarity already, the HD600 is superior to the HD650 in that regard. But those needs are already met by my HE400s. I love the liquidy sound from the HD650.

Yokken, I'm glad you're happy with the 650's. As long as you're happy and it fits your tastes/ music you listen to; that's all that matters. The HD650's definitely are one of the better choices in their price category!post #2052 of 326010/27/12 at 12:37pmQuote:amen brother amen

This is still semi-HD600 related -- the HD650s have more bass, noticeably more so, but are easily more colored. I really like the signature so it's okay, but the HD600s definitely win for a more balanced, albeit less "fun" presentation. That's not to say they aren't fun, they just aren't awesome at a whole lot of things. They're great with strings, cellos, that sort of thing. The resonance just comes out so natural, in my opinion. The HD650s aren't quite as good, as they are a bit warmer sounding. Vocals are definitely better on the HD650 but the HD600 is close. The HD600s definitely sound airier and not overbearing in any department. That's where they're great, is just sounding good with everything, and awesome with some things. The HD650 is way better at rap, though. Bass is awesome on these bad boys, sending a nice thump right into my ears. Voices are close and intimate on some recordings especially. To demonstrate:
The vocals are just so clear. Another great one from that album is The Morning if you liked the one above. The first night I had the HD650s I listened to this album and I could've sworn they used the HD650 to master the album. It just sounds so great on them. They're not laggy at all on the Lyr. I heard them through my E17 when I was burning them in and the bass was a bit uncontrolled and slightly muddy. It's tight and punchy with the Lyr. Gotta love it!!!
All that said, the HD600 is still a great headphone, being much more balanced and still enjoyable with all genres. The HD650 has some magically intoxicating mids that make them better than the HD600 in my mind. It's kinda funny, the guy I got them from said he likes the HD650 more than the HD600 because he thought the HD600 had too much bass. Pffffft... the HD650 has so much mid bass, and it rocks! Violins/cellos on the HD600 are truly great though. Very enjoyable on the Lyr. It's a great amp, no lie...
When you get down to it, getting an HD600 new or like new for $300 is a decent deal compared to it being around $375-400 for a new/like new HD650. I don't think the HD600 is nearly as picky/hard to drive as the HD650 either, so you can consider it being $2-300 cheaper because you might not blow so much on an amp. If you like liquid smooth mids and really nice punchy bass, the HD650 is awesome. For a bit more open, less colored sound but still balanced and fun frequency response, the HD600 is great too.

Quote:Not really, the HD600 is a fast headphone - or at least it is with the right amps. It doesn't have an unnatural bass response that would make it problematic for metal, like with the double pedals. About 80% of my music are various metal sub-genres and hard rock, and I enjoy the HD600+Meier Cantate (actually, any Meier amp) with all of them. About the only thing the RS1 does better is the eye-opening percussion impact, but the trade-off there is you perceive the staging and imaging to be a bit off - the drums are exactly on the same plane as (if not in front of) the vocals.
Aside from metal all my other music are jazz, blues, vocals (albums or audiophile CD rips), some Mozart, Mahler and Wagner. If anything's lacking, some jazz and blues tracks actually sound better on some Grados because they make the music sound more "raw" but probably that's just me (or maybe the rough edges of metal tracks just come out more with Grados).
post #2055 of 326010/31/12 at 9:16amI just pressed the button to order a pair of these, HD 600. So now I cant wait !
I have lived with my HD 650 for more than a year now, and probably lissened to them every single day cause I love music. In the same time I have read all this reviews and thoughts about HD 600 being a more neutral and a bit more livley than hd 650.
I have never felt that HD 650 lacks anything, or they do some genres bad and other good, I really love the signature of it.
But sometimes though, after a long session lissening, it feels like the HD 650 puts a little to much of its one to the song and making it sounding HD650-ish.
But like I said, I really love the hd 650 and the problem its not a really big concern for me. Im just curious about how the HD 600 stands up against the hd 650.
