AKG K701/K702 vs. AKG Q701?

There's threads about this stating that they sound exactly the same.

The akg k701, k702 and q701 are all exactly the same sounding, same drivers etc, only differences are detachable cables and color scheme's.

It's all opinion. How anyone reviews something is opinion. It's all subjective. 

If you buy both and review them, I'd read it =)

No one owns both because it has been told that they are the same. Instead of bashing DavidMahler's opinions, why don't you take one for the team and do a real review of both to contribute? Up to you. I hope you can get your answer.

OP, look at it like this. We know for sure that they both have the exact same drivers (as both have identical spec of sensitivity, impedance and freq response). And we know from pictures that physically they are exactly the same form factor, thus you can easily conclude that they are the same headphone and will sound the same...

The chaps at headroom seem to think they are slightly different though, they say that the Q701 just has a smoother treble, otherwise identical to the k701. I personally think they are either saying this just for business, or they are just hearing what they want to hear, but who knows, maybe it is true.

One think I know for sure. AKG replace and even mod the drivers to a few model during production time.

They are not the same...

The outside housing of the Q has a small round logo on it covering the grill, may well change the sound.

Hifi Choice did a review of the Q701 and said the bass was fantastic, doesnt sound like a K701 to me, quote "deep bass is glorious, and quite effortless"

Nobody here really has any interest in paying an additional $100+ for a different color...
