Mini-iPods

I find this so hard to believe. Apple does it again.

First, what type of storage are they using? The smallest drives we have seen are the 1.5 GB ones. I assume they are using HD and not flash since flash is much more expensive.

Next, we know 1.5 GB Nitrus MSRP's at $300 and street's at $130 ish. That is still about $100 per gig.

So they are going to have 2 GB and 4GB models, be SMALLER than the current iPODS which use the small Toshiba HD's and they are going to cost less? So double the capacity for less cost?

I know it's true because of all the rumors from "reliable sources," but is anyone else ase confused as I?

Reports [London's Evening Standard] are getting more substantial. This time the price is listed as low as £65 [~$115 USD].

EDIT: And these may be all based off the same few rumor sites, but another [CBS MarketWatch] and another [San Francisco Chronicle].

hmm, a black mini ipod for 65 quid with a couple of gigs storage would be most interesting.

just as long as that damn volume limitation can be skirted around on these new models, the sound is decent, and they sort the damn battery life out!!!

then i'd buy one

my guess is that they will offer 2 flash players and a 1.5gb player

$100 ... 128mb

$150.. 256mb

$200 ... 1.5gb

don't hold you're breathe on anything in the 2-4gb range for under $200. Apple's not in the business of losing money on the stuff they sell

haha.. man.. THEY (apple) didn't announce anything yet. all that's been posted is rumors.

Wow, it's going to be available in Stripes?! Wooooo. Apple innovates again! They really only need to make it with White, Chrome, and Acrylic and every Mac fanboy will be dry humping their computer screens.

heh that was really funny.

but you bring up a good point that i am wondering about. since most of the current ipods get about five or six hours of battery time.. what will these new mini ipods give out? two hours?

I read in the Time that Apple make 179$ US of profit on each Ipod sold.
Let's calculate :
10 gig Ipod, let's say it goes for 299 $ - 179 = 120 $
In that price, there's still the margin that the store takes, so let's make it a round 100 $.
If you put a little 2 gig drive, less thing in the bundle, it means that they could make it less pricey to produce, and also that they probably have decreased the percentage of units that don't work out of the production line, which would make the price lower too. I don't know want would it cost, but well, we can conclude that something near 120$ wouldn't be impossible.

How often have rumors been wrong with the cultish apple sites? (i.e. imacs, flatscreen imacs, g4, titanium notebooks, new powerbooks, etc)

Quite often, actually. You're only listing the rumors that panned out.

I'd still have to disagree. All the ones that did not pan out, you knew wouldn't. I mean the PDA one, right off the bat there were suspicions that the image was either rendered by some fan boy or was from some independently run Apple new design gallery site. Basically I am saying it's not hard to distinguish between what is real or not, rumors or not.
