and while I love the way they sound they are just too tight which makes the experience not quite as awesome as I was hoping. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it just because I haven't used cans in years and I'll get more accustomed to the fit? Any advice to make them more comfortable?

Stretch them over a few books or something over night. I put mine over my pc case and they were much more comfortable after that.
