Yep. Kinda disappointed that there wasn't a massive discount during Black Friday.

These things are hyped and said to be full of details.

I bought it for a couple reasons.

1) i must own shure's flagship for some reason or at least try it.
2) they are supposedly treble happy
3) Shure customer support is top notch ime
4) they are detailed and some people have compared them to flagships costing 4 times the price.

Overall i have to try them. Even if they aren't as good as i hope i will still keep them. I don't like selling my gear unless i have to.

I bought them as my "detail can". Tried it out at Jaben, man these things reveal a hell lot.

A picture to illustrate my last post , because it's counter-intuitive.

The picture illustrate the position of ear relative to the earcup.

In position B (headband adjusted to small size) : fatiguing , unbalanced frequency response, I'm looking for a wider soundstage.
In position A (headband adjusted to big  size): much natural, and "all rounder" headphones for different kind of music, satisfying soundstage. I  can finally relax when using them.

An analogy with dimmed light:  you don't like to receive light directly in the eyes. Same with the drivers of these headphones, they shouldn't be too much in front of the ear canal.

in position A, the 940 becomes an "open" can ?

If I'm hanging out in the evening with a few friends enjoying a couple of craft beers (say, Avery Old Jubilation Ale) and some gentle conversation, then I want some nice soft, diffuse, indirect, dim, incandescent light.

If I'm performing delicate feats of surgery (biological, mechanical, or electrical), then I need to see every detail and I want some direct, revealing, bright fluorescent or halogen light that shows me everything.

I reckon both types of lighting have their place. :xf_eek:)

Interesting, I'll have to try it out. It looks uncomfortable to wear though.

If this is how you have to wear your headphone then someone screwed up.

Just saying... that's not ergonomic.

Just to lay out another perspective, I find the sound much better in position B

Well the reviewer from "tape op magazine" website, also noticed  improvement by moving the headband  to a less natural position ( he said "I rotate the earcups a bit so that the headband is just above my forehead" ).

Well, I  don't have to stretch the headband to max at the end. I just stretch it enough so that the ear is not exactly in the center of the earcup.
Moreover , when I  stretch headband to max, I'm loosing some clamping force and hence some bass.
I  put now headband in position 3 in left &  right. ( I was putting before the headphone with minimal position in headband)

Anyway the ear position have a lot of impact, so you have to consider this, if it sound unnatural or fatiguing.

Still though, having parts of the pads resting on your ear musn't be too comfortable, even as velour.

Harsh sounds are a true discomfort. Even some youtube video were annoying, because of background noise, or overwhelming compression artefacts.

Ooooh I see where you're getting at now. The position of your ears against the pads effectively "reduces" the amount of sound going into your ear, thus reducing detail retrieval and making poor quality sounds sound absolutely bad.

I wouldn't want that though; the fact that the SRH940 is merciless makes me want to buy them even more.
