Hello there

There's an interesting promotion on some webshop in Belgium (where I live), 33% off the AKG K450. I currently own a Sennheiser PX100 and I really like it, it's portable, quite sturdy and has a solid bass. I wasn't thinking about upgrading (yet), but because of this deal I started looking for reviews and user experiences on Google and this forum. It seems that opinions about the K450 are rather mixed, some say it's one of the best sub-100$ on-ears, others say the sound quality doesn't quite please. Everyone does agree that the bass is (very) prominent, which I do like because I mostly listen to dance/electro tunes.

So, does anyone here own both the K450 and the PX100 or has tested them? Is the K450 really an upgrade over the PX100 in terms of sound quality?

I used to own AKG K450 and I sold the after few days. Bass is prominent but lacks of control, the mids are recessed the vocal is placed far away and the highs are cut off. The headphones are not that bad actually. I compared them mostly to my HD555 which sound signature I like very much. The music that you listen to should sound good on them but you should check them first, if you buy them remember to burn in them for about 30h - they will change for slightly better in terms of bass control and mids/vocal.

I have had both and had the Senns first and bought the K450 cuz i needed closed cans for work (and on couch gaming).  The K450 sound a lot different and since they are closed they are so not quite so spacious and have a strong bass.

Now, when I first got the K450 I was very unhappy with them.  But after about 60 hours they either burned in or I got used to the AKG sound.  Now when I put on the Senns (which are now my son's) they do not sound as rich as the AKG's and I would not go back.  The K450 can be a tad muddy at time (I notice with a lot of heavy distortion heavy metal stuff) but I adjust with the EQ and they are really full sounding.

If you wanna upgrade from Senns, the Jays V-Jays are very nice (its my open portable after the senns went to the son).
